Can anyone recommend a UK stockist for an SPL meter?
I need one with a phono out, so that I can use it to do room correction on the G68.
Thanks, Peter.

I bought one a while back from Tandy. They do 2 types, analogue or digital readout. I have the digital type and have used it successfully for RC. I can't remember the price - about 20 I think (bought it about 5 yrs ago). Alternatively, if you have good relations with a local Meridian stockist they will lend you one.

Perfect!
Thanks!!
It's the same one the dealer uses too.
What's the weighting option?
What are the ideal settings for getting the best RC response?
Thanks Pete

pete, the funniest bit is i dont really know how to use it propoerly. I cannot seem to get the sub-to calibrate properly but i know its the user not the item. I did get the speakers working great at around 80db setting but i do not have room correction i am a lowley 500 user.
sorry, perhaps the forum gurus can shed some light

I have borrowed both digital and needle display SPL's from my dealer over recent weeks - both Radio Shack (a.k.a Tandy in the UK as was). The newer digital display type was not as good as the older one. I don't know why but the MRC didn't give anywhere near as good results with it. Several boom-notes were just not picked out properly.
Maplin do one but it doesn't do sub 300Hz which is no good for MRC.
I saw that Nexnix do one for about 25 but don't know how good it is.
Any strong recommendations from anyone also appreciated

Pete,
The meter should be set to 'slow' and 'C'.

I bought an audiocontrol MP-200 measurement microphone and preamplifier. This is more than suitable for RC purposes. It cost me 350 dollars and another 80 for import duties into Belgium. See: http://www.audiocontrolindustrial.com/the200.htm As for the SPL meters, I have both the analogue and digital versions. The analogue version is a radioshack one which I bought in the US and the digital one is made by Sphynx, but obviously, Tandy, Sphynx, Radioshack and what have you, don't differ from each other. They both feature a RCA out. The correction files that do exist apply to both versions. Rgds, Richard

Thanks all,
That's exactly what I was after.
I'll order one up and get the Room Correction done.

Isn't the mic included with the G68?
People mentioning using the RS dB meter for calibration.. is there a setting in the Meridian software for this dB meter, as it is actually not reporting the right values for lower freqs. Normally you have a calibration file to adjust this, but is it included in the Meridian software. If not the RS dB meter should NOT be used with the G68??

Saster,
The MRC measurements don't work with sound pressure, but with time intervals. So as long as the mike can register an increase in sound pressure the absolute value doesn't really matter. This is why the S/R-ratio IS important: you have to distinguish the measurement tone from the background noise.
Regards, Mark
