Just upgraded two Oppo BDP-83s with BDP-103s. The 103 outputs 4k authored content and upsamples 2k to 4k to a 4k display. An HD621 supports HDMI 1.3, and with the HD621 firmware upgrade, supports 3D over 1.3 compliant HDMI cables.
I puzzled over what it would take to future proof my system for possible 4k compatibility. Since I use their cables, I went to this Blue Jeans Cable web page to learn more about HDMI 1.4 compliance.
The gist of the information is that a true HDMI 1.3 compliant connection also is HDMI 1.4 compliant. Since the HD621 video output is a pass through, it seems that the 4k upsample (or 4k authored content)from the 103/105 would pass successfully through the HD621 to the 4k compatible display as long as the HDMI connection is 1.3 compliant.
Someday, if 4k material becomes mainstream I'll be able to report on the validity of my presumption. Until then, this is my two cents worth.
Just reading in today's paper that there is a major problem looming with 4K screens! At the moment they can upscale current format OK but once true 4K content is produced (possibly by Sky and BBC next year) at best the screen goes blank and at worst some electronics are fried! The problem is ,so they say, the inabilty of the current HDMI connection to cope with the increased format
Who is therefore in the market for a new TV and when will the manufacturers come clean about this? It is fair to say that according to the article Samsung have stated that they will be able to accommodate this but what about the others

The problem with 4k is that you have to sit rather close to the screen to see the benefits. Not sure I want to sit that close, YMMD
Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.
It allows you to enter things like resolution, screen size, visual acuity, seating distances, lumens etc. and gives various comments on brightness of image and whether the resolution is visible.
In my room, 4K will be visible from my seating distance but that's it, which is great, because I can finally stop upgrading at 4K. No need for anything higher...
I have the sony VW 1000ES. Great projector. Can only tell you what I have done. Firstly got rid of my Lumagen. Secondly, I do the upscaling to 4K in the projector. I don't know if the Sony or the Oppo are better at 4K upscaling ( I have the Oppo 103), but have worked on the premise that the less data I put down the HDMI link to the Sony the better. I am not too sure how well 4K down a longish cable-run would work (all in all about 7-8 metres, including up to the ceiling). Everything still runs through my HD621.
I still have to have my Sony lowered a bit to get rid of very slight curvature at the sides, so you need to watch the height of the top of your screen compared to your ceiling height carefully.
Fantastic that you can watch 2.40:1 etc without an anamorphic lens. I have a constant height screen with variable masking. I ended up with the Screen Research E-Mask EL1C. I believe it has 6 settings, so you can cater for all the normal formats.

Did you get to test any true 4k material through the HD621, eg from the Sony server they sometimes use for demoing 4k?
I will not remove my Lumagen - the Sony 4K has no CMS at present and so the Lumagen will be used for that purpose. I very much intend to use the 4K Lumagen when ready to be able to do the same for 4k sources.
At this stage I intend to use my ISCO III with the Sony. I don't think I can throw a 2.35:1 image from my projection distance and so the only solution is the anamorphic lens. I'm right at the end of the throw range for the 16:9 image, so the lens is still required. I hope the ISCO is compatible with the Sony's lens...
