Could you dub the Knightrider theme over the video (put a link in the wiki?).

I'm afraid no Knightrider for me.

This is what I have tried :

1. WD
- wiped ALL hidden partitions with a tool on Linux (binary zeroes)
- Created a partition and NTFS formatted on W7
- Deleted the partition

2. Seagate
- Deleted all partitons, formatted a single one NTFS
- Formatted the same partition exFAT

All disk formats were 'fast'. Later I'll try full format.

Still lights 4&5 blink.

Off to BestBuy tomorrow for two new disks.

But then it's a formatted, unpartitioned disc, no?

And that's also a formatted disc.

I've never had to make a disc "unformatted". There must be a way. I'm sure a PC expert will be along directly.

Sorry, my posting does not seem to be too clear.

I meant 3 different tries with WD & 2 different with Seagate.

The first try with that Linux tool made the WD totally unformatted / unpartitioned.

Incidentally, as a last ditch effort, I put the WD disks back in before going to bed, it started blinking 4&5. This morning nothing was blinking. But the MD600 did not show up anywhere.

Re-boot MD600, now they are back blinking.

Do you have a different NAS in the house?

If so, try inserting a Disk into that for a little while, maybe 10 minutes or so then take it back out again.

That 10 minutes should return the Disk to "virgin" status and inserting it into the MD600 should then trigger the MD600 to perform the necessary formatting.

I had a similar problem when I got my MD600. I had 2 WD drives from as NAS. The MD600 would not recognise them. The solution was to format them to FAT.
Once I'd done that and put them in the MD600 it started up and did its knight rider thing.

Good luck.

Regards
Peter

It is bad news (for me).

The problem is the MD600. I purchased brand new WD20EARS as recomended. Getting the same 4/5 blinking and no knightrider.

Is there an easy way to check whether there is a cable loose or whether the disks are docking properly without causing warranty issues?

The doors of the MD600 are designed to ensure docking when closed.

When did you buy the MD600? It strikes me that if it's still under warranty you'd best get it sorted by the dealer than trying a repair that is potentially temporary.

I got the delivery on Tuesday, unpacked on Thursday. So, I'll give him a call.

Thanks everybody - this is a great place where everyone is very helpful.

Just an update.

Meridian tried to resolve the issue remotely, but could not. MD600 simply didn't see any disks.

I packed the MD600 together with the disks (WD30EFRX), returned to the dealer.

Dealer received a new MD600 from Meridian, put my disks in it, tested and sent it to me.

Now I can start ripping again smile
