There might be wiki information of this but basically:

Load up an Mconfig with your saved/fetched G68 settings.
Load a second Mconfig and place an 861v8 and add to it extra cards you might have like ID41 or analog out cards.
Start replicating your config and save it to your 861v8.

Is there any difference between a 861v6 upgraded to a 861v8, other than the v6 body and cards that are not upgraded are just older?

Well, after a whole day of having it set up, it looks like we have a problem with the new power supply. The unit would operate fine for about an hour and then would shut off. It would stay off for a while and could then be powered back on. The technician from HiFi House looked at a fuse which he tested and looked ok. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

It's a shame, because it sounded really good for the little while that I got to listen to it.

Also, does the unit come with a microphone. He did not have one and there was not one in the box.

No, most people use a SPL meter with an analogue output. Have a read in the Wiki for other options.

Has your tech guy ever setup Meridian kit before? He should know this.

You must be very disappointed with the 861v8 shutting down, is your supplier sorting out a plan to get the PSU swapped out.

Regards,
Carl

Hi Carl,

The tech guy said that he has set up several Meridian units and seemed to be familiar with the set up, but he thought that there should be a microphone for the room correction.

I am really disappointed. I was really looking forward to spending time with the 861v8 and seeing how much different it is from the G68.

The dealer is going to contact Meridian to see what to do.

Now I am not sure whether it makes sense to purchase this unit, even if Meridian fixes it. They are offering me a discount from MSRP on the unit, but I am not sure whether it is a fair discount. I thought that a demo unit should be more than 20% less than a new unit's MSRP, but don't really know.

I would check all connections inside. In particular there is a small white connector box where the toroid is connected to the motherboard. Be sure to pull-test the connecting cables because the screw connectors are not supersnug fit for the cables. An easy test instead of shipping the unit off.

Hey,

If the guy does not know that you need to use the microphone at room correction, I do not think he has experience with Meridian. Contact Meridian directly so you can get help from someone who is authorized.

The 861 is a great processor, so do not give up.

You should have a 5 year warranty as long as it is upgraded to a v8 by someone who is authorized to and do it.
A microphone is very cheap, but a dealer should help you out anyway with room correction/set up.

I agree. "Setting up several systems" and not knowing the MRC piece plus a unit that doesn't work doesn't suggest he is 100% on this.

Rgds,
Nick
