This has happened several times lately while editing and there seems no reason why. No power blip as this would affect an electric clock with no battery backup which is super sensitive to power outages - it is still functioning normally. Nothing done out of the ordinary while editing.

So maybe just one of the crosses we have to bear with computer based items?

After a couple of reboots of TwinStore & C10 it all eventually returns. I sense it might be TwinStore 3 that I'm working on as it is the only one rebooted - the other two seem happy enough and come back on line. Maybe it is warning that I should do another incremental backup of this TwinStore.

Does anyone have any ideas about the cause? Is it a warning that one of the HDDs in the TwinStore could be developing a fault? Or ....? Note the HDDs in T3 are relatively new Seagate 2 TB units and have not been on 24/7 like T1 & T2 (but they are not the same as the Seagate 2 TB enterprise drives in T1 & T2). I guess that being relatively new is no guarantee a drive will not fail.

John

Have you checked the network connection/tried different cable/port?

If you are saying that Control:PC just shuts down for no reason, then I will concur. Happens all the time for me. Found that if something is playing, then it won't happen. I have changed my DNS settings, reloaded Control:PC and even rebooted a dozen times or more. Once I learned the way around it, gave up trying to fix.

And, having just started using Control:Mac, it appears even worse on the Mac platform currently. Control:PC was subjectively more stable than Control:Mac.

No, sorry if my post was unclear. C10 was still on fine but it showed the albums had gone offline so it is a TwinStore not a C10 problem, or maybe a Control:PC problem? Maybe Control:10 sent a confused signal which caused the TwinStore to go offline.

I doubt the network connections but I'll check if it happens again.

Regardless there is a complete new backup of that TwinStore in progress now and should finish within 24 hours. I have not finished all editing but the bulk has been completed and it would be a waste of several days work if it got lost. It is far too easy to be lulled into a false sense of security when there has been no breakdown in over 2 years.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Or a rogue device on the network that comes and goes with same IP address. If you keep switching your devices off and on and you are not using fixed IP addresses set on each the device then I would hate to think what mess your IP addresses might be getting in.

Backing up is, for me, the last job which I never interrupted or do anything whilst it is occurring. Thoughts, Chris smile

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best:
GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

Thanks Russ, I think you have the answer. When the backup is completed I'll follow your suggestion.

For the info of others, it looks like this TwinStore needs servicing, something not surprising. Unlike the other two, purchased new, this third one is a used unit with new HDDs installed, but has seen a lot of service with a dealer who had it running for a long time before it came my way.

So I'm glad I posted here to find the answer. Thank you HH and again thanks to those who took the time and trouble to respond.

John
