I must say, this product has given Meridian a lot of positive press globally. So often is the case that blogs, etc. seem to dump on Meridian products for being unnecessarily expensive.
That said, I am not sure I fully understand the strategy beyond a simple marketing/awareness, which they seem to have nailed. I want to use this product, but with a Sooloos setup, I am not sure how? You would need a backup battery to use it off your smart phone/iPod. Maybe I am missing something. It is certainly a pretty slick product!

That'll be the iPad camera kit probably. Whatever device that can allow a USB connection to it. If you have one it would be worth a try. AFAIK iPad USB power is limited to 200mA and this is a 500mA device so unlikely to work with camera kit, however, I've seen some USB hubs that allow battery packs to power devices (mic, amps, etc.) and enable use with iPad + camera kits.

I want to use this product, but with a Sooloos setup, I am not sure how? You would need a backup battery to use it off your smart phone/iPod. Doesn't seem that this dude is necessarily aimed at the Sooloos consumer - not unless you use ControlPC as an endpoint. Although I don't don't very often, I sometimes use my laptop running ControlPC to drive my X-Cans amp at my work desk. Presumably the Explorer would improve this approach considerably given that investing in a MS200 isn't really worth it IMO.

I would find it really flexible if Meridian could supply drivers on Sooloos devices with inbuilt USB ports (MC200, MD600, Control15 etc) to allow it to be connected directly and used as a dedicated headphone zone/additional zone without the need of a PC. My MC200 is in my office and shares its output between speakerlink/DSP5000's in lounge and coax/optical/F80 in office. I guess that's verging on MS200 territory but that does not officially support headphones.

I think having cut themselves off from the quickly expanding/expanded mainstream computer server hifi market by being an entirely closed system (never mentioned on Computer Audiophile), this is a way of being part of that market again and putting the name out there.

Can't disagree but I'm not sure any of the Control series (bar the Control:20) have ever had USB connectivity. Can't see any on Duncs site, but maybe it's my iPad making it hard to see. Maybe they should release the Control:20 into the wild finally?
Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.
Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

And the marketing campaign continues with an e-mail from Meridian this morning.
In the spirit of Spinaltap, I would like to confirm that I am not involved in the corrupt theft of a global sport.

OK from Computer Audiophile "In addition to the 4x sample rate support via optical output Meridian will release a firmware image with enhanced DSP by disabling the digital output and reclaiming the processing power for an extra DSP stage with upsampling, an apodising filter and noise shaping" I can't see that in the review, or were you joshing? Would indeed be amazing if this were the case - would love one of these with apodizing for cans. In fact, has anyone confirmed it's *not* apodizing? I can't see any info on digital filters, upsampling, etc.?

No joshing. I have also heard that firmware images will be available in due course. The reviewer seems to have heard the same info.
Yes, indeed, upsampling/apodising in the Explorer will be a very big USP and advantage over the competition.

Amaze-balls!
Hm, any chance this could be used to drive a pair of DSPs somehow, for a second system with a Mac-Mini, or some such?
