Power draw might be a significant factor if it can be connected to iPhone/Android devices. Might be quite a short listening session.
Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.

I have been thinking the last day since hearing/reading of the launch of the Explorer and now I have a bee in my bonnet about upgrading my headphones...
I work in a design studio and often work really long days at the drawing board and listen to music all day long on Spotify. I currently use some not that great wireless Sennheiser headphones connected directly to my MacBookPro. They have been ok I guess but have been more convenient than anything else what with being wireless.
I thinking, if I was invest in the Explorer what headphones could be a good choice? I like the over ear kind. I'm not too knowledgeable about headphones really. It would be great to hear what others on here would recommend. Also I would need a pair that would not need an additional amplifier. Would this rule out the AKG? I've heard good things about the AKG701s and curious how they would compare to the Sennheiser HD600 etc.
Any wise words or recommendations? I really must congratulate M on creating excitement again! and with their most affordable product is pretty nice!

Have a look at the Sennheiser IE800, getting very good reviews. Trouble is with the HD800, you look like a Cyberman. Subtle, understated Explorer & IE800. Yes please Santa!

What is the maximum impedance suggested? With 3,5mil jack I assume it is more aimed towards 32 to 120 Ohm mobile headsets, and assume 250 to 600Ohm hifi phones with adapters may come out a bit low in maximum volume.

The specs from the Meridian website state 130mW into 16 ohms, so low impedance headphones are what it's meant for.

Very interesting review on CA that details some of the firmware tricks built in i.e. full res output to the Toslink Computer Audiophile review

Hi Joel,
So far listened to it with a range of B&W and Grado headphones, exact models fitting in the price range mentioned earlier but will confirm the models later.
Source material wise, everything from 128 MP3 to 192/24 FLAC and multiple genres. Player wise I've been using iTunes and foobar with the ASIO plugin.
Thanks, Dan Does this device even support ASIO? You'd need custom sound drivers to do so.
- Fiddler (IMHO)

Yes, both ASIO and WASAPI drivers will enable bit-perfect delivery to the Explorer.
This has the massive benefit of bypassing the nasties that Windows will do to the audio signal. Mac users have equivalents.
Those familiar with other Asynchronous USB devices may be familiar with this already.
Plug ins are available for players like Foobar etc.

No, I do not believe it is in its current form. It would have to utilise drivers like ASIO or WASAPI and there is no indication that this is the case.
Something that HQ could look at for future releases perhaps.

It would seem to make a lot of sense now that Explorer has been released.
