I would think the 861v8 (possibly v6/v4/G6*, I forget it's limits) would know that and add appropriate delay.
One the 861 the lip-sync delay is 0mS to 50mS, though there is a trade off when the number of MRC filters exceeds are certain value. All the lip-sync delays all channels by the same amount. However I agree with you that it is plausible for the 861 to compensate for the EBA latency.
I guess eventually M will rollout EBA to all (well current range at least) DSP's.
Today all DSP's have a unified latency of 7.5mS so a 40ms with EBA is quite a jump and problematical for movies.

IIRC early video processor added quite a large delay to the video stream, which gave rise to lip sync problems but I don't know if this is still the case.
Personally this time alignment makes no sense to me. Real instruments produce multiple frequencies and are not "Time Aligned". The only thing that makes sense is to correct for imperfections in crossover/drivers which has always been done in all the DSP Speakers (or most of them). All this possible does is adjust the effective distance to the "instruments". All distances are "Correct".
To oversimplify again, Bob has said at CES that speakers act like filters. Latency increases with progression down the frequency scale. So it is the speakers not the instruments that are at issue here. Meridian must think that they are on to something otherwise they would not have gone to all the time, trouble and expense of applying for a patent. I hope someone can shed further light on this.
It is the same reason, to use EBA ALL the speakers used by that preset must support EBA, so in this case it is your rear DSP5500's that veto EBA.
Carl,
Thanks, was forgetting that Trifield mixes to the rears, looking at the Trifield preset there is no option to switch off the rears and run Trifield across the front 3 only.
Tried taking the 5500's out of the Mconfig file and as you say EBA suddenly appears in Trifield.
Also note that in the tooltip in Mconfig, EBA stands for Enhanced Boundary Alignment and not Enhanced Bass Alignment.
I really hope Meridian updates their complete 24/96 range since many of us longtime customers have several generations of 24/96 speakers. IF EBU is an important step in Meridian audio reproduction.
DSP8000SE, DSP7200SEHC, DSP5200SE sides, DSP7200SE rears, 861v8, 210, Sim2 Ultranero 4, Stewart Cinecurve 2.35:1, XEIT CM-5E Anamorphic lens, Dune HD Duo Cinema 8K and Wireworld Platinum 48G HDMI -> UHD722 -> Shunyata Omega Ethernet. Shunyata/Furutech power-cables/filters. SR Master Fuse@861v8. Uptone Etherregen with 10MHz OCXO clock.
Also note that in the tooltip in Mconfig, EBA stands for Enhanced Boundary Alignment and not Enhanced Bass Alignment.
In the handbook EBC is listed as Enhanced Boundary Control and EBA as Enhanced Bass Alignment. EBC is intended to adjust for the reflectivity of walls and surfaces (presumably floors) but this is in addition to the traditional speaker location parameter. I look forward to someone posting their impression of EBC.
When you have followed Carl's detailed instructions you should see the EBA option in the Meridian config program, be aware it will be greyed out if the DSP mode includes speakers that do not currently support EBA, for example my front trio of 72's do but the rear DSP3200's do not, so in Trifield where the rears are used the EBA option was not available, however in direct the option was available, I am not sure if enabling it on the speakers directly will mean it is always on?
I am not sure if enabling it on the speakers directly will mean it is always on?
It does. The modes are: - Off - On - Processor SpeakerLink [Controlled]
Also to note, the whilst Mconfig will protect you by greying out the option when it is not suitable, the DSP Pre-set Menus on the processor do not, so users beware.

EDIT: It specifically says SL (SpeakerLink) I guess excludes non-SL processors then
I have a 7.0 setup no sub with DSP l/r/c/rl/rr and analogue sides.
Hi, can you list all the DSP's models that you have in this 7.0 system and what channels you have them on. As this affects if EBA is available or not.
Oh I forget say earlier, as EBA adds a significant amount extra latency unless all the speakers in use on a multichannel system support EBA is should be not be used, as it will throw the calibration timing out against the other non-EBA speakers.

PS having your kit listed in sig. box helps when asking for advice, you should consider adding it.
