Installation: G68J + HDCC-150 Power Supply
It is a tight fit but all cable connections were as expected and the procedure was very much plug and play. Nick did a great job in making the fitting of the PSU idiot proof. Installation was straight forward and the G68J powered up fine and was fully operational.
System: G68J, Revelation One filter, SBTouch + linear PS, EAR 869, PMC GB1i. Small living room 13 x 10 ft, suspended wooden floor.
To my ears the major improvements after replacing the SMPS with the LPS are a sense of effortless delivery or how the music flows, considerable improvement in resolution / dynamics and the sound stage has more depth. Worthwhile improvement! You bet.
Many thanks Nick for your efforts.

My 4 friends and I all finished the modification following Nick's installation directions. Thank you Nick. Including G68XXV*2, 861v2*1, 861v3*1, 861v4*1 and 800*1.
The improvment is quite noticable, two friend of my even sold the original switch PSU.
The improvement mostly on bass dynamic and sound field, Now I so enjoy with my system.
Btw how is your modded Oppo93 worked? That may my next move.
Thank you Nick again!

Thanks Albert, I'm really pleased that so many people are going down the DIY LPS route, and I'd love to see how someone got a linear supply in an 800!
The upgraded Oppo 93 was one of my best mods - perhaps the best one of all. I've only listened to the audio benefits so far. I understand that Lee Jaehong's real driver was video quality, but I haven't done any comparisons yet. I think you need a good projector to compare BD players, and I've not been able to use mine until very recently, so I'm looking forwards to comparing my 93 & 95 this weekend.

800 with LPSU, this is one of those overheating mods which I mentioned on my earlier massage. I have suggested my firend Mr Yan to trun around the LPSU according to your comments. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.meridianunplugged.com/ubbthreads/gallery/16/full/701.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.meridianunplugged.com/ubbthreads/gallery/16/full/702.jpg)

Thanks for posting those pictures Albert. It never occured to me that you could mount a linear PSU on top of the disc drive, I didn't realise there was enough room there. I regret that I've never owned an 800, and I only imagined squeezing in an FG Elektronics supply alongside the drive.
The 800/861 doesn't have much ventilation, and I'd be concerned about where the heat is going to go in that position. Some of them have holes in the internal lid, and some are plain. Which is this one? Rather than relying on convection, the chassis itself is a good heat sink, I found it can reduce the PSU transistor's temperatures significantly. I would try to mount the PSU on one of the chassis walls - maybe upside-down on the lid.
Do you know what type of PSU this is? 40W? 75W? Bigger PSU's are better able to run cool with a given electrical load.
Regards, Nick

It's a nice fit, isn't it! It turned out that the transformer sat a bit high, and had to be dropped down with spacers. That's the biggest common LPS, and they seem to be more readily available these days. It's always good when someone does a real installation, so everyone else knows what works. I'm now attempting to get a 40W Condor supply into my C61 to replace the FG Elektronic supply.
Steve - I just replied to your PMs. Sorry for the delay.

Nick,
Have you mounted a POWER ONE 105w on 861v4? Is these enough room to do such mod?
Now I own a v4, I can't find much improvement on movie compare with my ex. G68 (powered with CP498) if there is no one speaking in the movie. The bass is even worse than the G68 IMHO. But the music and dialogue (in movie) which 861 provided is a totally different story. I'm deeply poisoned by the dialogue.
Now I decide to do it again on my v4 and see how good it can be.
