That maybe so, but it's the sneering attitude of the gatekeeper I can do without.

Change your gatekeeper to one who doesn't sneer. Their loss.

Hi All,

I find this "no contact" attitude of Meridian very strange. Most companys today have chat, email, forums and so on to engage with users and customers. M seems to have the attitude of dont talk to us, we have no time with you. This is how I perceive it.

I have been in contact with large companies Apple, Microsoft, Naim, Chord cables. I have always recived an answer. Sometimes the communication has been excellent and sometimes it has been bad. But it has always been possible to contact the company.

This type of attitude from M dosen't improve customer relations, brand loyalty and the general opinion about M as a friendly and open company.

I find this attitude from M more strange when we start talking about the prices of their products and their(?) wish to be seen as a premium manufacturer. M is not a little strange basement company.

Sometimes I feel that M is like some old king. He communicates when he wants to but when the people want to talk to the king it is just to much asked.

Best Regards Per Nilsson, Sweden

I think they are a smaller company than those you mention. I suspect they would dearly love to talk to us but can't really afford to. I think their business model is quite specific. I understood this when I bought (although I remember the good old days- a technician talked me through taking the back off the D600 and mashing the thermal protection component to make the speaker work again, diagnosing symptoms in a short conversation-giving me another 8 years use (component got replaced)). The right dealer is a pretty good substitute.

Hi,

If Meridian can't afford to talk to those who make their company go around they are in serious finacial problems. I have no idea of the size of Meridian in number of employes/revenue. But IMHO it is in their intrest to have a good relation to those buy their products. If we didn't buy their products there would be no Meridian.

There is a lot of other larger/smaller companies that make good sounding hifi that are happy to talk their customers. I have met people from Naim in hifi fairs in Sweden. There has also been people from other hifi companies and they have always been freindly and intrested in talking to me. If other companys in the same size can afford good PR why can't Meridian then do it?

Maybe it is a way of how the company think about the customer.

I must point out that I have no grudge or bad experiences with Meridian. I just find their attitude very unfriendly.

Best regards, Per Nilsson

For balance, there have been Meridian people at product launches and events all over the country, they are very happy to chat there, for as long as it takes. Their model is that other contact is via the dealer. Should work in theory, works for me. What you can't do is call up and talk to a technician (directly).

Are there any lawyers about?

I'm pretty sure that warranties are the legal responsibility of the retailer.

A few years ago, I had a catastrophic failure of a Trek bike. Despite the fact that the part failing clearly had a defect, and the fact the bike had a lifetime warranty was of no interest to them. They simply told me to go back to the dealer. Oh yeah, the dealer had gone bust and so who could I go to. Trek didn't care.

Don't get me wrong, I preferred it when I could email Des et al and get help, but I'm not surprised M have moved on. I also think M could be a bit more tolerant of this board and use it more as a resource than as a nuisance. On balance, the people here are incredibly supportive of the Meridian marque and should really be considered brand ambassadors.

I thought for a while they had actually lost the plot a little bit. Promised firmware endlessly delayed, generally nothing really happening.

But the last 2 years have really been impressive.

Cheers

Hi Tintin,

If there has been Meridian people on fairs in the UK I don't know and I can't say anything about their apperance there. I live in Sweden I can just talk from my point of view and experience.

Best regards, Per Nilsson

I don't think Meridian insisting that your first port of call is via a premium partner is anything to do with their financial position good or bad.

It's quite simple. If you need assistance, you deal with your premium partner or an alternative premium partner who can help. If the query needs escalating you then deal with the most appropriate people. If your premium partner cannot answer the query and does not escalate, then find yourself a new premium partner who will happily assist. Those on this forum have a good track record for fulfilling ones needs.

Hi Greg,

As an avid mountain biker, please can you say if your bike was finally fixed?

Meridian use premium partners for "Triage". It is probably more efficient that way.
I am sure HQ could deal with a few calls easily but I would think it has become a lot more than that, so much so that efficiency was being compromised and so a rule had to be made to sort it. This was not popular from our point of view, but I understand it.

For myself, being a sole trader, I do not take calls from clients on my mobile as every call comes at an inconvenient time and usually costs 20 minuets. Then you loose momentum in the job someone is paying you by the hour to do.
I explain this to clients when they want my mobile number and they fully understand and appreciate the fact that when I am working for them, they have my time exclusively.

Just my view, Chris smile

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best:
GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone
