I just read about a new iriver player that's supposed to play 24/192 MQS files. I haven't heard of this type of file.

Anyone know anything other than the information posted on iriver's site?

It's short for Master Quality Sound. It's plays 24/192 FLAC or WAV files, and it's called the Astell&Kern. Available soon for $700 in the USA or 569 in the UK.

So MQS is a codec, not just a marketing buzz word frown Why oh why could then not just stick with FLAC and WAV; and HDtracks should know better too. That said at least this device does support these format as well.

Regards,
Carl

PS Oddly, the specification page only lists: "Audio codec support AAC, FLAC, MP3, OGG, WAV, WMA" no MQS.

Hi

The Astell & Kern looks intresting. But why the small storage space? Only 32Gb built in and max on the slot in another 32Gb. Why not make a proper player with a real SSD drive.

Cheers, Per
