Not Fit for purpose springs to mind.

Have you tried down mixing the 24/96 to 16/48?
Bearing in mind that quite a lot of 16/44 releases look as dreadful as that one, without this comparison in mind, it could just be incompetence across the board, rather than a cynical attempt to make 24/96 superior.

I wish there was a 96/24 download of the previous album, The Resistance, which I far prefer musically!

The only downside of having a pair of great speakers is that they do show up badly mastered recordings frown

I think the 16/44 tracks are typical of the vast majority of recent releases. If we could just have ANY recodings that aren't over-recorded like that it would be a blessing, but it looks like the 24/96 tracks are a win-win, and even the price is reasonable. 24 bit downloads are often unreasonably expensive - but this is only 50% more than the MP3! The whole family are great fans of Muse, and although we usually buy CDs, I'd stop tomorrow if we could buy everything this way.

Just listened to a 1954 recording by Frank Sinatra which was exquisite and it seems to me has not been bettered in all the intervening years.
Perhaps the techniques used then should be returned to if audio quality is what your looking to achieve.
thoughts, Chris smile

P.S. I am not saying all recordings since then are worse or new recordings can't be as good or better. It just seems that with all the progress, the pinnacle of what could be achieved was approached along time ago.

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best:
GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

Has anyone compared the Kate Bush album up-sampled in Meridian with the 96/24 download?

Whoops meant 24/96.

Almost tempted to buy the Muse for the pretty cover. Would look nice on iPad.

I was also tempted by the full set of the Gardiner Bach Cantatas for their spellbinding album covers but at over 400 ... (and prefer the Suzuki recordings)
