If all goes well, I'm going to be ordering a Meridian MC200 to add to my stereo music system. The MC200 will connect into my Bryston external DAC (75-ohm digital coax connection) and into my Linn pre-amp (Balanced connection).

I made my decision to go with the Meridian streamer since Meridian provides one of the most user friendly (easy-to-use) iPad interfaces which is extremely important if I want my wife to use it.

Are there any issues or limitations I should be aware of concerning the Meridian iPad application, before I dive into this?

It may be a little unstable and crashes a bit (I could be in a minority, I use iPad 1). It's something you get used to, not a big deal, not a deal breaker (for me) and something that will improve. Well worth the minor irritation, great user interface.

The iPad application seems more stable if you make sure that not much else is running at the same time.
Particularly with earlier generations of iPads.

Cheers,

It is a great interface, and the price is right. On both iPad2 and iPad3 I've had no crashing issues. Recent update has created a cover-multiplying problem in one part of the interface, but its not a particularly big deal, and it will get fixed.

I use the iPad1 and I do not have any problems with the app. It is a great app, and I don't think other brands make them so good as Meridian.

Welcome The Pioneer, yes I agree, the iPad app is very stable. You do have to be aware of basic iPad maintenance such as closing unused apps occasionally.

If the app fails to respond, just close it completely.
If you lose contact with your core, re start iPad.

This is what I have found, Chris smile

Hi

I think the app works ok in most cases. In my findings its more stable when justt running the app and all the other apps closed.

Hope you will be happy with your MC200 Samurai.

Happy listening.

Please let me know if you think of it when it is up and running.

Best regards, Per NIlsson, Sweden

I have a few minor issues with the app on my iPad1:

1) It often crashes while browsing my collection. This is the least of my worries, because after opening it again it works OK.

2) Often, while switching between browse and the screen with the album details, the browse screen skips back to the beginning of my browse list. For example: it shows the A's again while I was looking at my albums under S. This is very annoying, but not a deal breaker.

3) While tagging items, after a few additions to albums, the tagging menu is suddenly inactive. The only way to reactivate this menu, is by rebooting the iPad or wait a long time.

4) The same issue appears while focussing. It sometimes becomes impossible to clear a focus, which leaves me looking at just a small section of my collection. Again, rebooting the iPad or waiting for a while will bring back the clear button.

But apart from that, everything is perfectly alright.

I agree with the positive comments above. The only 'limitation' in my view is the very limited ability to do any editing via the app. It would be great when sitting comfortably listening to music with my iPad in hand to be able to mark favorite tracks without getting up (but then perhaps I'm just very lazy).

Ian, you can do this on the iPad by using the web browser to bring up Control:Mac, whilst sitting comfortably. I understand this is bust in iOS 6 (but fixed in 6.1), I'm still on 5, so not an issue for me.

For me, too, the iPad app is very, very stable. I can't recall the last time it crashed!

You can always use a remote desktop application like Logmein or Teamviewer on an iPad to access Control:PC too smile
Then you can edit the metadata directly from the iPad
