What I was trying to say is I believe the MS600 analog level is set so high that it could be driving itself into distortion as you hit the higher numbers with the variable volume control.

I didn't do any experimentation to determine if the gain setting was independent of the variable volume. I didn't notice any difference in the quality of sound using either one though.

As an aside, I'm now using the Pure Direct mode on the Pioneer after the Overload indicator tipped me off that the processer was still engaged in the Direct mode. The gain adjustment on the MS600 is back to 0db with fixed volume and everything sounds great.

I use the variable output from one of my MS600 connected to a Bryston power amp. I set the gain to 0db. There is no problem with the sound. It sounds great.

I have tried several models of Pioneer Receiver with different sources and all of them overloaded the analogue input DAC - it's not just the MS600 doing this. It was the same with my 506.24 before and an Audiolab CD player and a PC sound card with analogue out.

Adding Attenutation with either the MS600 or Pioneer does tone down the sound - the MS600 does it much better. This is sacrifice that has to be made in order to use the sub with music i.e. going through processing you ideally dont want to.

Perfect solution there is a G61 or G68 or above - as the internal DAC should be good enough to confidently feed it a digital signal. I will be trying soon and will report back.

Have you tried CharlieU feeding your G61 with your MS600 over digital then feeding your analogue system? To see how it compares?

I don't have a G61. The Pioneer is spending its last days in my two channel system. I have a analog preamp with bass management coming in to replace it. The Pioneer will have a MS200 attached to it when it's moved to its next location.
