Have a look in System Preferences -- Security -- Firewall -- Advanced --

Scroll down thru the Processess that have already been granted "Allow Incoming Permissions" to

I strongly suspect that SooloosHelper and SyncCompanion will not be listed there and without them being given access, then Control:Mac just will not work at all.

I suggest you use Appcleaner again to remove any vestiges of Control:Mac.

Turn Off Firewall completely.
Restart your Mac with firewall off.
After Restart make sure the Firewall is still off.

Now install Control:Mac again.

Grant Incoming Permissions to those 2 Processes above.

Hi Ronnie, looking in advanced indeed I only see the Sooloos installer there, not the other two files you mention. However, advanced settings are greyed out when the firewall is disabled, so shouldn't free traffic be possible for all apps?

Either way, I will try your suggested routine now!

Just tried the routine as described above. I also disabled stealth mode but no luck. The thing is that I don't get asked permission for the processes you mention. After enabling the firewall again to have a look at the programs, still Sooloos helper and Synccompanion aren't there. What's more: I can't even find them doing a search or by looking at the files that AppCleaner finds before de-install.

Then unfortunately you must have some other App or Security Setting enabled which is Preventing these Processes from getting access

These Two Processes are critical to C-Mac and it won't work unless they get access

I have C-Mac running on 10.6.8;......... 10.7.2....... 10.7.5...........and 10.8.2.........as do other Mac Users on here.......so it's something on your Mac........which is obviously difficult to figure out from a distance

Darn, I feared as much. Well thanks for your help, perhaps I'll figure it out some day.

In the meantime I'm waiting eagerly for the Apple announcement on the 23rd. I'm hoping for new iMacs. Jut praying that they haven't decided that the optical drives can go...

Try this...........

1) Open Finder

2) Click Go......Connect to Server............

3) Enter "smb://IP Address" where IP represents the IP Address of your Sooloos Core (MD600 I guess)

4) In the Dialog Screen that Pops up next, just select Guest Access

5) A Finder window will open showing you the contents of your MD600

6) Go to Updates.........Live.......ControlMac

7) Double Click on ControlMac-Installer.dmg

8) Allow ControlMac-Installer.app Incoming Connections

9) this should allow you to install Control Mac with a bit more control over what's happening

Hi Ronnie, thanks again, interesting suggestions! I carried them out with great anticipation. Alas, this follows the same routine as before: at no stage do I get asked to grant permission for anything and then the app crashes. It doesn't seem to matter whether I have the firewall on or off. The exact same thing happens.

Surprised you are having such a big issue with this.

Personally, I have the Firewall turned off. If I was worried about internet issues I would actually use LittleSnitch rather than the built in Firewall. In fact in my previous mbp I WAS using LittleSnitch in conjunction with Control:Mac with no issue. My current machine is pretty new and I havent gotten around to installing it yet.

Another thing I would try, because it wont do any harm anyway.

Run "Disk Utility", select the disk and click on Repair Disk Permission.

Cheers

Hi Greg, thanks, Little Snitch is an old aquaintance that I had forgotten about! I started using the default firewall because like to keep computer systems as "default" as possible because that makes for the easiest re-install, which inevitably comes around every now and then. On Windows at least grin

Indeed these Mac problems surprise me too. My dealer told me that they have more experience with PC but that problems like this on a Mac are usually to do with network/configuration. The silly thing is that all works fine with the PWD on both Mac and PC so it seems my network itself isn't the culprit.

I take the repair permission routine every now and then. Just did it again just now just to be sure. 22 mins remaining... I'll check back in after that!

Incidentally, I also tried to install Control:PC in XP emulation under Fusion. The install went fine and the program even starts, but then keeps spinning the "connect" wheel forever. Changes to the firewalls (both Windows and Mac) don't make a difference.

Back again: the 22 mins were apparently nonsense and the system is ready again. Tried the reinstall once more but alas: same crash.
