Unless the system goes to sleep mode, whcih I don't think it does, it should be the same. Either way, in my case, soft restarting this way also clears the double entries.
Pulling the plug after soft-switching off, doesn't seem to do anyting more. But I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and will also hard-power cycle.

Checked before pulling the plug (had done a soft restart though, and noticed no doubles) the rebooted and looked again: no doubles. Let's see in a couple of hours...

Having given birth to twins, triplets & finally quads (never did manage quintuplets) the system here (C10/MS600 two TwinStores) has now decided to behave normally! It was left on all night and it is well over 24 hours since the system has been powered off.
About the only clue is that yesterday, as posted in another thread, the incremental backup displayed many many more albums were archived/revamped than I had edited that day.
But another clue I just remembered. Yesterday I ripped in a completely new album. Maybe that shook it back to normal? Maybe those not having problems have ripped in new material since the software upgrade?
I loaded a new album a few days ago...but still see triplets in the "by this artist" column. After the album load, I powered off the system one time when the iPad app didn't connect. Later I found an iPad app setting to NOT allow the app to sleep. Now the system remains powered on and the iPad app quickly displays the album covers, along with the extra album covers.

1,5 hours after pulling the plug on the MD600, the doubles still aren't back, as happened with Russ. Since my PC crashed a few days after installing the Sooloos update, and my Mac won't run Sooloos, I haven't been able to load any new albums either. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

Just out of curiosity, do you see multiples of album covers just in the 'by this artist' column or on the main browse screen also? On the iPad, I only see it on the 'by this artist' column.
