Maybe with this interest Meridian could do something themselves. If the proposed linear power supply doesn't fit they could just build an external power supply. Plenty of top-notch preamps have their power supply in a separate box for lots of good reasons. They did something similar with the HD621: in this case it was to strip out the video signal, but also because the 861 didn't have the space.

I am with Mr Meridian on this. I'm sure though that I'll need help putting this PSU inside my 861v6 or even my other Meridian gear that I have.

What is the position re. the 808.3, is the PSU the same as for the 861? I.e. is the proposed linear PSU likely to be suitable for a 808.3?

You mean like the Teddy Pardo 12/4 discussed in this thread? There is a 14 day full refund on it so you can try it out to your hearts content.

The two versions of switching supply are essentially the same for almost all G-series and 800 series units. However, the players have much less room available, so it remains to be seen whether a linear supply will fit.

Why not find out what's used in the 818 and try that?

Exactly
My previous question re 808.3 v 808.3 Ruby upgrade to LPS.
Can a simple upgrade be made to 808.3 to replace SMPS with latest LPS.

If pricing is reasonable, count me in for 2.

Once we have confirmed there is enough interest, I will get a prototype unit to fit to my G68 and assess.

I'm very hopeful this will give a large improvement over the stock power supply, and also a big improvement over the LM317 type Linear PSU's that people have been trying.

Grog,

The external LPS for my G68 built by myself has been working perfectly since March 2012, with noticable sonic improvement even auditing with my poorer than average ear. I attach the link to the photos again for your easy reference. http://www.flickr.com/photos/53336639@N02/sets/72157629584616861/

I modified my power supply to a LPS because my original SMPS of the G68 failed. In the initial phase of modification, after connecting the cables from my Condor CP498A to the G68 in trial mode, I found that the Condor LPS was so hot that I was reluctant to embed it inside the G68 chassis, and therefore consealed it with an external box. I have not experienced any fault with my modified LPS; however, part of its chassis is running hot at >44 deg C even if the G68 is at standby mode during which the G68 is normally consuming certain power. It is a heat source to my living room and good for the winter, but not for summer in Hong Kong with ambient temperature always higher than 30 deg C. I am now using an automatic timer to power off the LPS to reduce the heat and save some electricity when no one is at home or during midnight.

If the LPS you are going to use is more efficient that it operates at a much lower temperature, I am more than happy to be informed and may consider to supersede the Condor CP498A.

Thank you

KC Lee
