It is amazing, I agree. In the most recent round of stereo magazines (paper-based form of information sharing that is sent via physical delivery - quaint, I know) I just received, the writers are all abuzz about the Audioquest Dragonfly - apparently a hi-end quality, asynchronous USB interface that sings and dances. All stuffed into a package the size of a thumb drive.

Very interested to hear about some hands on experience with the MS200.

Could Meridian provide a lead to power MS200 from i80 dock adaptor on F80/M80?

That's a great suggestion Ian. Given that it could be powered by some speakerlink connections you would expect the power from the iPod socket to be very similar. That would be very neat as it would be behind the unit and remove the need for wall-wart.

Rgds,
Nick

I'll let you know when mine arrives.

It does present some interesting alternatives. Now the MD600 runs as a core, I'll be able to sell my RM TwinStore and MC200, replace with MD600 and MS200s. I then have my core and storage in one place, which must be preferable from a stability of network perspective, and located in a rack in the cellar which is good to reduce the noise in my listening room. It remains to be seen what the impact is sonically using the MS200 versus the MC200.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

I've heard that the new MS200 is approaching MS600 Audio Quality when driving a digital setup.

So if the SpeakerLink power is coming from the speakers, that means it's true toroidal (LPS) and technically better than the wall wart? Comparison for SQ would be easy. Could the MC200 audio board also be power by SpeakerLink (in theory). Just curious and being a botanist doesn't help. My sons keeps telling me to go to night school and do electronics so I know what I'm talking about.

In theory yes, but in practise no. I would be a very odd setup where a powered unit with it's own internal PSU also takes power from an external supply for part of it circuitry. Also even this were to be done the audio board would still be susceptible to EMI from all the other electronic and HDDs in the same casing.

So why not move the audio board to it's own case and power it from an external PSU; do this and we get back to the MS200 design.

Carl

What I was thinking was that a comparison of SQ on the MS200 through wall wort (same as MC200) and Speakerlink might add to the debate.

I'm all for trying a LPS for the MS200. I was thinking if 3 or 4 people wanted to try, as group buy of 1 unit, it could be passed around. If people found it worthwhile, then buy one or if nobody wanted it, sell it off and only loose 1/4. Or any combination thereof. Anybody fancy that? I presume this is OK with HHer policy, all arranged off board.

Teddy Pardo offers 14 days with return free shipping. So you don't need to sell it off, just return it within 14 days if not 100% happy.

The Teddy Pardo 12V/4A PSU was 420$ incl shipping within EU when I ordered one.

But I bet the MS200 don't need that powerful PSU so you could get away with a much smaller one.

The release notes say that it has an analogue output but I can't see one if the socket on the right is for DC as you say.

I want to hook up my golden oldie M30 active speakers.

You have a combined socket for optical or analog. And adaptor will do it. Chris smile

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best:
GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone
