Thanks for your efforts in pursuing this. I'm interested if it can be designed in a way that doesn't compromise the cooling of my G68. A price tag of >500 may cause me to re-think
Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.

Greg, How many would be needed for your source to consider the proposal? /Marcus

I am a hesitant to fit different PSUs into equipment I paid a lot of money for, I like to think Meridian did a lot of research into which PSU to fit in the design stage.
The new linear PSU may very well be an improvement but equally may not! Why not have the Meridian health check and get a new PSU fitted and 5 year guarantee, just a thought? You might be surprised. The electronics marketplace is flooded with triple-output power supplies offering exactly the voltages and currents required for Meridian equipment. They all have much the same specs, and the ones used by Meridian are very generic and much like all the rest. They don't have any better line or load regulation, noise, ripple, leakage etc. than any other off-the-shelf supplies. The chosen supplies attributes are size, weight, efficiency and cost. In other words, all the things that shouldn't matter much with big, heavy, expensive high-end audio controllers and players. Having said that, I'm sure that Meridian DID design the capacitor board on the 800-series very carefully indeed. But it wasn't enough; not nearly enough. Nick

Re Welwyn Nick?
The 808.3 Anniversary features a LPS. Previous versions have SMPS. Can the standard 808.3 version simply be upgraded with LPS? The 818 has a LPS therefore is ID41 really better than ID40?
Consensus of published opinion suggests that the power supply maybe more influential to achieved SQ.
Just my enquisitive nature. Hector

I will check on the quantity needed, so far we have 10 interested parties quite quickly, which is good. As for price, I read from the thread that 500GBP is too much, and a target of 250 would be preferable.
How much do Meridian charge for PSU replacement by the way?

I think the 'competition' here is Meridian's health check program at 500 for a new PSU (though not necessarily the linear version) and warranty extension. Otherwise, here in the US at least, any kind of problem with a processor will set you back $850 plus outbound shipping.

Regarding cost, as has been stated it needs to be a viable alternative to the 'Health Check' price, but the figure of 500 includes a new power supply, fitted, plus a 5 yr (for an 861 anyway) warranty on the whole unit. Not sure what a typical fitting charge would be by an independent repairer but any work on an 861 won't be done for peanuts. Then you have the value of the 5yr warranty to take into account. I would guess that a UK selling price would need to be a fair bit lower than the figures mentioned so far.

More info to compare pricing. Iirc that G series is 350 with 3 year warranty.
Assume it's the same PSU for G and 800 series. That makes warranty worth 75/year if compared to 5 years on 861.

So by interpolation it means that the cost of fitting a new power supply is 125 ie (500-5*75 or 350-3*75). As a new power supply is less than the cost of 2 years warranty it does seem that the warranty is somewhat expensive. There are presumably other items covered by the warranty??? but on the face of it the unit could have a new power supply fitted every 2 years (proactive) cheaper than the current offer just my 2 cents worth Rod
