Hi,
I normally rip using dBpoweramp and then "import" folders into Sooloos, but just for a change I tried using the "Import CD" option from ControlPC.
If there is no CD in the drive the it complains that there is no CD (!) but if there IS a CD in the drive it does absolutely nothing.

This is the first time I have actually tried it (ie it has never worked before in this setup) - should this option work? If so, any ideas why it is ignoring my commands?

BTW. Are there any error logs with ControlPC - I couldn't find them.

Thoughts appreciated
/Marcus

Hi Marcus,

Yes it should and does work. You could try a different CD first and then try uninstalling and then re-installing Control:PC.

No error logs that I know of, IMHO this is a weakness that Meridian should improve on.

Carl

My ControlPC can't rip CDs either. Thank goodness dBpoweramp does!

I think I've read that ControlPC uses the EAC (Exact Audio Copy) engine to do its thing. In any case, EAC does not work on my PC. I would hazard a guess that if you tried EAC to rip a CD you'd have no luck either. In addition, you'll probably get a little more explanation as to why it's not working.

In my case EAC does not like my Bluray burner.

Regards
Mark

Just a thought, have you tried putting in a CD that's is already ripped to see if it recognises it as a duplicate? This may tell us somthing about what is or is not going on. Chris smile

Added thoughts, has the CD got any copy protection or video content? It won't like that and will sit it out. Then you need dBpoweramp.

In short you need a clean common basic CD as a test. Chris smile

So it appears that all DVD/CD drives are not created equal.

I tried the same ControlPC software on my wifes laptop (Lenovo T410) and that rips fine.

Just so that you all know, EAC works OK on my PC as does dBpoweramp - in fact so does everything else that needs access to the DVD/CD drive.

Maybe some DVD/CD drives just do not work with ControlPC.

I will try a VM on the same box to see if access to the drive via a virtual driver will work.

If this is a common issue, maybe we should make a list of the non-compatible drives on the Wiki.

I have a SATA Bluray burner that doesn't work. I ended up adding an old EIDE DVD drive just to rip CD's from Control:PC. I keep checking after every software update to see if Meridian has corrected the issue, but it may not even be on their radar. My dealer isn't a good conduit to get problems to Meridian.

If you're having problems ripping, could you try unchecking the 'Enable SecureRip' box on the settings page in Control:PC, try again and report back your findings please?

Cheers,

Rick

Turning off SecureRip worked. Here's some details:

Pioneer BD-RW BDR-205 (Firmware v 1.112)
Windows 7 Professional 64bit SP1
Standard Microsoft Win 7 drivers for the Bluray drive and SATA controller
The SATA controller is built in to the motherboard and is part of the Intel X58 chipset.
Control:PC version is 2.384 (build 313)

Turned off SecureRip and still get an error when trying to Import a CD. "No CD drive found".
EAC does not see my drive either.
dBpoweramp sees it as does all other Windows programs that I use.

Drive is Pioneer BD-RW BDR-206 SATA

Mark

Hi Rick,
I am afraid that turning this option off made no difference on my PC I am afraid. Interestingly Exact Audio Copy and dBpoweramp work quite happily with the same PANASONIC BD drive.

Alas my system (MC200) has recently fallen prey to this glitch. Previously I was able to import FLAC files from my DB "master" rips into Control:PC without incident. I tried direct import of a CD and had no success with that method either.

Following several days of repeated failed attempts to import CD's or FLAC files, I uninstalled Control:PC and re-installed it today. Unfortunately it still doesnt work.

Further details in order to assist the MUP consortiums collective diagnosis. I seem to have normal functionality with regards to viewing my library. The problem arises whenever I attempt to import. I can get as far as selecting the "Accept & transfer" tab and then Control:PC seems to freeze for an interminable period of time before throwing me back to the home screen.

FWIW I'm running windows 7 and have re-installed Contol:PC 2.384 (build 313). My MC200 is only 50% full so I don't see aproblem there.

Does anyone have any advice or diagnostic procedures that they can offer? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thankfully I can still render playback via my iPad 2.

Best,
Matsaly

How have you verified HDD usage? How many albums? What does debug show you? Let's start there.

Rgds,
Nick
