I recently resesigned my home theater and placed the center speaker (5500HC) on the carpeted floor beneath the center of my screen. This leaves a gap of about 5 inches between the screen and speaker. I would like to raise the speaker for cosmetic and ?sonic improvement. I thought about creating a wood platform but am concerned about vibration and its look. Have any of you dealt with this in your system?

Sound Anchors makes very good CC stands that are metal. They are not cheap, but they are well made. You can take a look at them here.

Hey Alan, Well the carpeted floor is a terrible place for your center channel. You want to raise it up as high as your screen permits and angle the speaker upwards to aim the tweeter axis at the front row listeners' ears. This will lessen the sonically damaging early reflection that is coming from your floor. Seeing as you are in the USA, check out Sound Anchors equipment stands. They sell consumer direct from Florida, make appropriate stands for Meridian's big center channels, and they are as good as speaker stands get. Before moving to an acoustically transparent screen and a 3rd vertically oriented DSP6000 for a center channel, I used a custom 4 post Sound Anchor under my DSP5500HC. I still use another pair of 12" tall custom sized 4 post Sound Anchors under my pair DSP5000 on rear surround duty to get the tweeters and mid-bass driver above the chair backs. Happy Trails! Spoke with Bob at sound anchors. Really nice guy, will be making a custom stand because it turns out I can only raise the speaker 3-4 inches because my screen can't be raised to accomodate the generic stand.

Glad we could help Alan. Again, I was really happy with the custom 4 pillar stand stand he built for my M center. And this is bound to offer a major improvement in SQ over your current arrangement.
