Hi Jack You'll need D5K2's minimum I'm afraid  The M6's are a BIG step back from what you currently have and indeed, much of the Meridian DSP Range You could try the new D3300, but once you factor in a required Stand, the Space taken up doesn't become any smaller The 818 sounds great, but you'd notice good components and speakers downstream to notice a difference compared to the already good MS600 You have that now obviously........but the M6 and other equipment choices would negate the advantage of the 818

You guys are a terrible influence! I'm sure you are correct. Well one more complicated negotiation coming up... When it comes to audio or home theatre I stick to the addage that "forgiveness is easier to ask for than permission"...

Yup. I agree. I have stretched that approach to the limit! Recently I purchased an 861v6 and installed it when she was out. I'm still waiting for her to notice. Still that is much easier than a pair of massive speakers.

Agree, switching black boxes or sneaking a new one without many lights on (hello HD621) is pretty easy to get away with. Speakers aren't. Nor, I have discovered to my pain, are plasma screens.
I think it's because they look expensive. An 861v6 looks like a crappy receiver to the uninitiated.

My 818 should arrive tomorrow. I was looking through the user guide in preparation. One option that is shown is to connect the 818 to an 861. Why would one want to do that?

Well you can only connect two speakers so Trifield is no use in the 818 zone. Maybe MRC but still seems a bit odd.

But 861 has more than 2 speakers so Trifield is still an option.

Sure but if you are connecting the speakers to the 861 what would you do with the 818 attached to it?.
