Russ

OK the app is free and I get that but "a chance to resolve the issue"?
Come on. Be real. It took them like forever to release it.
How long to "resolve" the issues?

Many of you keep rationalizing M and their growing list of disappointments. Time and time again.
It isn't going to get better, be different, or whatever.

Meridian is a second tier audio company. Always was, always will be (unless someone buys them, maybe)
Sooloos was on the cusp of being great. Then they sold to Meridian.
Too bad for those of us who were already vested in Sooloos.

If people want the full Sooloos UI then the best way is a C15.
No problems there. The iPad app is an afterthought and has brought the entry price and most funcionality of a C15 into the range of many more people.
To condem Meridian for some bugs is just not fair IMHO. This is just the way things are and I am sure all will improve over time.

Calm down, Chris smile

GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

+1.
The app has transformed the Sooloos experience for me since I only have an MC200 and no Cxx. It would be nice to have zero crashes and the various bugs fixed but I am immensely enjoying it as it is. Nobody produces 100% stable and bug-free software first time round and I think the app is relatively good for a first issued rev. The announcement of the app was what swung the Sooloos decision for me and now that we have it I am not disappointed.

I wonder who the first tier audio companies are? Certainly not Sooloos prior to the M acquisition.

Sooloos was about the indexing, cataloging and accessing of a CD library at blazing speeds. They built hardware and software but it was not HiFi. Their model was and is beautifully executed but the output was computer audio quality at best. You would never have had the sound quality of the MS600 if Sooloos was left alone. Who is to say that they would have even survived?

I'm not defending or apologizing for Meridian, but your acrimony towards them is a little over the top.

Bill

What your posts (and constant negativity) show is that you really have no idea of what the issues are and how they might be tackled

Let's talk about the "Old Sooloos" for a minute.

First, and most importantly because it still affects us today, the Original Sooloos Designers / Developers chose a SQL Database Design and Structure which would not have been necessary after 1997........never mind when they actually began their development in 2003 or so

The Database Table Design and Structure chosen was a poor one.......especially when they choose Not to have a separate Table Structure for Track based Metadata

It's quite obvious that you don't understand that It is that single design oversight which continues to cause many of the issues that we see today in all of the Sooloos App

Now that the Sooloos SQL Architecture is in place, it is a VERY intensive job to change it; whilst still keeping all of the Sooloos customers happy

For example, it would actually be quite easy for Meridian to implement a completely new Structure, which incorporated Track Based Data.....as well as a different way of handling Artwork......and this would be great for new customers

The problem with that approach, is that the new design would necessitate leaving behind the older Sooloos Components.......which likely would be unable to work with the new Structures; how happy would the old Sooloos users, such as yourself, be then???

Now let's look at the Audio Performance of the Older Sooloos Components.

When Meridian took over Sooloos, the Audio Performance of the Source 1 and 5 Products left an awful lot to be desired.......and was mediocre at best

Since then, the introduction of the MS600 and ID40/41 Products have elevated the Audio Performance of the Sooloos Products to an extremely high level.........and I note that you have availed of an MS600 yourself

There are many things that Meridian get wrong and make wrong decisions on.........however, this Forum should be one of CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM, not one for constant and unwarranted moaning and bitching

Most here can agree that the new iPad App is FAR from a "disaster".........with at least several people having Zero Crash Problems to relate

It's a major step forward, with room for improvement......it will lower the "buy in" cost to Sooloos......which should lead to many more customers........which means more Revenue......which in turn means more Development Resources........which will be of benefit to all here.......not least, your own good self smile

At risk of repeating myself, since I disabled iCloud synching, my app hasn't crashed.

I have been running the App since monday, it's crashed 2 or 3 times I suppose? Other Apps do this from time to time as well. It's not the end of the world and its pretty fast to start up again.

I agree with Ronnie it's not perfect but it is a huge improvement and I would understand if Meridian were a little disappointed by people focusing so much on the negative and less on the massive improvement the (free) app makes to the system.

I am confident they will gradually improve things as time goes on.

Hi Tintin

Tried it, still no luck, running in explore mode and no issues happy like that while investigations continue smile glad it seems to be working for you, currently I am thinking this could be a good excuse for an iPad 3 whistle

Hi,
Actually Sooloos where on the verge of bankruptcy when the Meridian investors stepped in; so most likely if M had not stepped in there would be no Sooloos today. The Sooloos Control user interface was good but not stunning and audio quality was no better than a PC fitted with a good quality audio; but the concept was good.

Since Meridians involvement, the UI has been improved esp. with version 2, and each successive hardware version (with M designed electronics) has had improved audio quality so now we have the MS600, ID40 and ID41 based systems which are right up there in the high-end stakes.

It does seem that the new iPad app needs some T.L.C., but its far from a disaster, let have some semblance of perspective here.

Regards,
Carl

Development started in 2000. Not sure what else your point means

The Database Table Design and Structure chosen was a poor one.......especially when they choose Not to have a separate Table Structure for Track based Metadata

Really is track based Metadata that important. If it is why not write it in using SQL? If it is so poor why are you using Sooloos?

It's quite obvious that you don't understand that It is that single design oversight which continues to cause many of the issues that we see today in all of the Sooloos App

What specific issues that either work or don't work are you referring to?
Now that the Sooloos SQL Architecture is in place, it is a VERY intensive job to change it; whilst still keeping all of the Sooloos customers happy

And your point? M bought it, knew what they bought (maybe) so
for those who need this track based data, why isn't M getting it done for you?

For example, it would actually be quite easy for Meridian to implement a completely new Structure, which incorporated Track Based Data.....as well as a different way of handling Artwork......and this would be great for new customers

Not seeing your point here, sorry.

The problem with that approach, is that the new design would necessitate leaving behind the older Sooloos Components.......which likely would be unable to work with the new Structures; how happy would the old Sooloos users, such as yourself, be then???

We are talking about things that don't work, not new feature sets. And again if it's so important write it in using SQL. Maybe you should go into business and write a new structure if your such an expert. Actually, no worries here at all. I'm pretty sure M doesn't have the resources to change anything. And if they did they would surely have a great trade up program.

Now let's look at the Audio Performance of the Older Sooloos Components.

When Meridian took over Sooloos, the Audio Performance of the Source 1 and 5 Products left an awful lot to be desired.......and was mediocre at best

Since then, the introduction of the MS600 and ID40/41 Products have elevated the Audio Performance of the Sooloos Products to an extremely high level.........and I note that you have availed of an MS600 yourself.

No one I know of used the analogue outs on the original Sources. They were horrible. They used the digital out.

I use the MS600 in my system to get closer to my DAC of choice and to conveniently try different digital cables. That's about all it's good for. I would never listen to any M audio in my systems.

There are many things that Meridian get wrong and make wrong decisions on.........however, this Forum should be one of CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM, not one for constant and unwarranted moaning and bitching.

Constructive to whom? Oh constructive criticism is different than plain old criticism??

Most here can agree that the new iPad App is FAR from a "disaster".........with at least several people having Zero Crash Problems to relate

Read the posts. It crashes. It shouldn't crash for even one user. It's FUNDAMENTAL!!

It's a major step forward, with room for improvement......it will lower the "buy in" cost to Sooloos......which should lead to many more customers........which means more Revenue......which in turn means more Development Resources........which will be of benefit to all here.......not least, your own good self smile

Thank you but please don't speak for me

And how do you know that?
Were you involved with Sooloos before they sold to M?

You would never listen to Meridian audio? Really? Why are you here? To test digital outputs? Just asking.
