I have no Mac experience, only Windows, but are you using a drive mapping (i.e. a driver letter as a location on the NAS) or the IP address of the NAS?

I've been keeping my iTunes library on a NAS for years, with the location stored by IP address, and it's never dropped the link. Could a drive mapping be causing an issue here?
