John,

Metadata issues aside, if you use the C10/C15 interface you can focus on composer. This will then display all albums were the given composer is
credited. This when combined with search can help to track down the required album.

On ControlPC / ControlMac one can use 'My Library' / 'Composers' to perform a similar function.

Regards,
Carl

Thanks Carl.

Unfortunately it is a bit clunky. Apart from the hassle of getting to the composer using first name the search engine is inaccurate. I just tried Camille Saint Saens and among the correct findings were many wrong ones e.e. it located an album of Berlioz overtures, marking the Roman Overture as belonging to SS. There were other inaccuracies also but it did cleverly highlight others correctly.

I've struck this inaccuracy before when swimming in a tag. It is over 90% correct but every so often plays something not within that tag - I've stopped play and double checked that. Not a big deal but hard to understand why this happens.

Hi John,

First name/last name....the composer tag is just a data tag. It runs alphabetically. If you want to search by last name then tag all you Chopins as 'Chopin, Fred'. If they are all in as Fred Chopin then it will be driven in the F's.
Alternatively, just tag as Chopin.

If you actually wanted the option in a miracle update of Sooloos search then you would have to tag two fields...first name and last name. No thanks.

Out of interest, have you tried to edit a composer tag yet ? (I highlighted to you a few weeks back how to do).

All Sooloos users to pool tag info ? Nice idea but I suspect that is exactly where things like AMG came from in the first place. It would be a disaster IMO....you have Chopin, Fred; I have Chopin. How would you expect that to reconcile?

Unfortunately, it all does come back to data again.

If composer is an important attribute for you, then you will have to invest some time to groom the composer data. It is a fact of web-life that until now, probabaly no systems out there other than Sooloos has ever really utilised this tag. And, you are probably one of the very few users ever to really want to use it so extensively. Any system or search engine will only be as good as the data.

I'm not referencing the original ripping process here - just that we struggle sometimes with getting artist and album right...let alone composer.

Seelct all your Chopins and bulk add a composer tag of your chosing. Report back how long it took.

cheers

I did that last year. Yes it took some time and I used the surnames.

Sorry if my posts & suggestions irritate you. Maybe I'll move on for a bit.

Hi John, it's not irritation. I am however puzzled as you were raising an issue about Sooloos composer search using first name only and how this was an issue for you.

I was hoping to clarify what it actually does and how to get best use of this feature.

If you have actually addressed it with composer surnames I am not sure what your issue is or how constructive your post is if it is not an issue for you.
