I don't think you have understood what has been said. Noone is suggesting calibrating a speaker at >0db. With DSP speakers it is physically impossible to calibrate +db using the normal methods. He does not have DSP speakers. Positive calibration is fine. You can have positive on DSP sprakers for other reasons. see wiki under DSP tips and tricks.

The MAX setting does not work well with room correction and calibration. Actually it sounds horrible during these. It is definitely causing an issue. Set all sizes to zero temporarily for calibration and and MRC.
After the MRC is done, and saved, go back and adjust each to max size and store the settings. This will get you to where you need to be. The MAX setting is killing the SNR. I'm not sure I have ever seen this advice before. I have had a lot of trouble with S/N on MRC and if this helps I will give it another go. I thought the speaker size setting only limited the bass in extreme circumstances and basically did nothing except in "overdrive". News to me too. But then again I always disabled this protection for normal use as well. The only differences on analog in shifting all calibration levels up or down is what level they will be during MRC measure. I would start at calibrating to 75 which will give you 87 during MRC measure.

I said that he was misunderstanding the advice given here and that the advice given did not contradict his friends advice that he heard from M The reference to not +db calibrating with DSP's backed up the advice from M and was used to make a point rather than being specific to the users situation.

I don't have DSP Speakers, my colleague neither, but he sets his Meridian this way :
Calibration to 0 for all the speakers and he makes the levels in the cinema DSP side for multichannel and Trifield etc.

You cannot independently set up the levels etc. of each speaker in an MC system using the DSP preset controls. Even if you could, it would be a pest adjusting each one rather than using a central setup mode.
The logic of the Meridian setup is that you first calibrate the speakers in the room to give the overall balance which you require (yes, you can set the rears higher if you want). Then you use the DSP settings to adjust the individual modes to your personal preference. The latter is not system calibration.

That's really bad advice, assuming you explained it correctly. You can target close to 0 offsets if you WISH. But to set them all 0 and adjust each preset by ear, is insane. You MUST set all Levels to the read the same value at the SPL Meter during calibration. PERIOD. What TARGET level you pick on your meter (70, 75, 80), CAN affect MRC measurement. You're going in circles. Have read the Wiki page? It doesn't sound like it based on your comments.

Well, I was really surprised by his advice, and he really likes the sounds he is getting. I need to go and listen the system
