Stacey, Why did i not thought on that one myself..
If the BT656 signal is coming in on the VE00 as well (must be if it want to display something) i can pull the signal from that card as well. No hardware investments besides the SDI mod !
Thanks, Jaco

while they [HD-DVD players] might scale, don't expect this with an analog output. HD-DVD will most likely require HDMI for the HD rates. Hmmmm... I thought they would loosen up with *upconverted* 480i in terms of allowing analog output. There is so much inconsistency going on... Why allow HD-set top boxes to upscale NTSC an provide analog output, yet not allow HD-DVD players this same courtesy? This whole situation, particulary Blu-Ray and AOD is a clusterfu** The whole politics combined with the copyrotection is a giant clusterfu** These companies must know that they need the EARLY ADOPTERS badly for HD-DVD to succeed... they HAVE to know that. Without the driving force of early adopters demonstrating their new HD-DVD players to family and friends, HD-DVD doesn't have a chance. HD-DVD must be a *significant* difference over de-interlaced and upscaled DVD... That being said, I'm likely going to be purchasing a digital projector 2.5 years from now, so not having analog outputs may not be a terrible thing, particularly because digital is a higher quality delivery method direct to the projector without degradation. On another note, I would be quite upset had I purchased a G90 or other high-end CRT projector. On a further note, I hope digital projection methods make some serious leaps and bounds in the next 2 years as to make me never even want to think about a G90 or similar high quality 9 inch CRT projector. Is CRT projection going to die, or will they manufacture them with digital inputs? Then there is the question of somebody making a convertor box... something that converts the digital input to an RGB output... (clusterfu**) [This message has been edited by Health Nut (edited 01-02-2004).]

I have been interested in the SDI output card for the 800 also.

Frank, That would only make 2 persons till now. A series of 5 would cost $1800. Since i am in Europe it will be close to $2500 before i would have it. (shipping, import tax, VAT)
So i will first try to see if i can hook up a SDI mod to the VE00 card. the cost of that would only be around $300 or so. I have spare slot covers, so only issue stays soldering at the VE00. But perhpas the signals are all on the bus, so soldering a wire to the connector itself in stead on the PCB seems unharmfull heatwise. Hopefully all signals are present..

Mudge, Stacey I saw you both hinted me to look at the VE00 card. I did this evening, and it uses a Analog Devices ADV7175 chip.
I will discuss the posibilitys with JVB.
Thanks, Jaco

It is suitable, it supports the BT656 input format, as do many popular SDI boards. Your only worry is if it is using the similar BT601 input, which many SDI boards can't handle - you can only tell which is in use by asking M or performing the mod though.
The datasheet is available from the Analog Devices website, though the part number in the Meridian is actually ADV7175A.

All but the V1 800 use 656. I think V1 used 601.

Doesn't that depend on the type of MPEG decoder used ? I am not able to find a datasheet of the c-cube ziva 3 at the LSI website. Found references that those were removed.
Will discuss with JVB that it is most likely a 656.
Thanks, Jaco

I have a version 3 800 and an Immersive SDI card. I can confirm that my card uses 656.

Thanks, i exchanged some mails with JVB already, and they expected problems if 601 was used.

Thanks Jaco, I have heard "chatter" of a scaler card for the 800. We heard this in the past though. I realize the priority of a card that would only interest a few is low on the list, especially with the roll out of the "G" stuff.
However the S&W engineers need something to do (right?).

Frank, Indeed they are called VE-11 for DVI (with HDCP) and VE-12 (HDMI) They are on the price list, but seems not yet avialable. But you abviously need a projection system with that input. I use CRT, so have only analogue input possibilitys.
