Yes, but what are the principles which inform those tastes?

Difficult! I'll try and put it into words...

I like design to be as clean as possible without "fiddly bits" that look out of place.

I like bold visuals, but they must also be balanced.

Comparing the DSP7000 and DSP7200 pictures below, both are bold designs. However, IMO, the display on the 7200s detracts from the visual where it is beautifully integrated in the 7000s. Also, the four drivers of the 7200s look very clean, but for me the balance isn't there. They might be ok without the display above the tweeter. There is something about the black grill of the silver 7000s which contrasts well with the tweeter and mid drivers. Perhaps it's a golden ratio thing?

But I also have to say that, and maybe it's the colour or the angle of the photography, I don't like the 7000s in red nearly as much. In fact, the ratios of the grills to drivers in the silver and red photos look completely different... Was one a mock-up?

The problem with the drivers is the fact they are on a cabinet that is not square, which makes the drivers look smaller as they sit in the wider part, this, in my view, makes the design look awkward compared with the symmetry of the 7000s.

The three panels are NXT panels in custom frames.
The cables run under the floor and up the wall, along the picture rails.
They are then soldered onto the picture rail hooks, each of the picture chains make up one leg of the speaker lead.

Very, very impressive.

I couldn't agree more, the display ruins the flow of the design.

Another thing that would bug the hell out of me is that the display isn't flush either.

Hi Steve
The maps are interesting but how is the power connected. Have you also considered the ceiling mounted versions.

Now here's interesting... This is one of Reuben's pics which makes them look better than the photo above (I think). However, the bottom grill still looks stunted compared with the silver 7k pic.

Hi Hector,

All the 'speakers are effectively just drive units; the panels are drive units mounted in picture frames, the subs are drive units in ported boxes.

The power comes from a Rotel 985 power amp, the crossovers, EQ and PEQ are all done via DSP in a Behringer DCX2496.

Both the above are hidden inside a dresser along with the airport express.

All you can see is the 565 and 504 stacked on top of the dresser.

Under the dresser there are 3 Neutrik Speakon sockets (LCR connections) and a 75 ohm socket (going to an external roof FM aerial).

No cables are visible and the wife is happy.

As for ceiling 'speakers, do you mean normal types or NXT panels?

Steve.

I was referring to NXT panels. Why maps, why not just walls, if minimalism is the deciding factor. (The picture hooks are nearly Victorian) SWMBO would object to these more than a fleeting glance of an M cable. Acoustically engineered emulsion or artex should not be a problem.

Like http://www.amina.co.uk/ ?

I've heard them at a show but not in a critical listening environment. Although I've been steered away from them by an installer (in my professional capacity, not for my own home).

The room's decor is traditional rather than modern; plain walls wouldn't work.

All the other pictures in the room use rail hooks which helps to hide the speakers.

The maps were decided on after long discussions; I like historic maps and the rest of my family lives across the States shown on them. They were also a good fit dimensionally with the NXT panels.

Steve.
