Strangely I have the opposite experience with 'pops' with the latest firmware on my 861V4. The handshake between PL-11 Movie and Cinema which used to occur whenever the formats changed is now taking significantly longer and causes pops (mostly on rear 6ks not so noticeable on fronts). This is mostly on Virgin Media cable HD channels where the formats change quite often as the adverts are stereo or pro-logic and the programs/films in dolby digital.

Chris

Maybe the pops are not due to C00044 and the new firmware in the DSP6000's (front for me, and pops I think are in the front). It was not long after I loaded the new firmware that I switched to running C00044 and I was blaming that.

EDIT: Ehhh, That would not make sense. Gotta be processor firmware. DSP's should just play what they are told.

On the issue of depth...

I am using a G68 v1.44 + c00044. The depth setting seems to work as intended.

In my setup, my front speakers are equidistant, so I have depth set to 0. I tried other settings, which resulted in less coherent sound. But so far as I can tell, the depth setting seems to work for v1.44 + c00044.

1.5 depth with 1.2 width can sound good with some recordings but I agree the image is more focused for me with my equal distance front main speakers seating. Nice to be able to play with these settings again. smile

Just a small point. The G68 with just the C00044 file backdated gives the "bad code combination" error message when you press the "More" front panel key in standby followed by "Version". A second press takes you into the normal menus.

I know this is a very old thread but I am resurrecting it to try to find out how many other hitchhikers are still using DSPC00044

I have been using it very happily since it was first mentioned in this thread.

When the v8 firmware came out, the Meridian website implied that the v8 firmware improved the sound. I gave it a try on my 861v6 and could not find any difference in sound compared to the standard v6 software so I went back to the DSPC0044 software and the other unmentionable firmware tweak.

I have since upgraded to v8 hardware and am very impressed with the sound improvement but again I believe that the non standard firmware configuration sounds much better with my system.

I am interested to hear if this is unique to my ears, sound preferences and system or if others are experiencing the same thing.

I stopped using the DSPC0044 after I tried it on a 2011 G61R and didn't get the wow experience I had before. My quasiexplanation of this was that the better clocks etc made this tweak somewhat obsolete.

So I never tried the DSPC0044 on my 861v6 or 861v8.

Hi there,

I'm a little late to the party, but I was thinking of trying DSPC00044 on our 568.2MM.

I'm wondering actually which version I need, for example I found a DSPC00044 file from an 861 v3/v4 on an web archive link.
Or perhaps somebody here has a better version or the correct version.. ?
Would love to hear.

Is it just as simple as deleting c00049.mfu, and replace it with the c00044.mfu file?
Then run the Meridian Flash Uploader and flash 2.5b9 firmware again, and perhaps ignore errors about the c00044.mfu which might pop up during the firmware upload?

And if I want to change back to c00049.mfu again, I just have to do it in reverse, and reflash again?

I would like to test the DSPC00044 out, but I would like the option to go back to the original DSPC00049 if possible, otherwise I wont do the change.

And do I understand/read correctly, that Trifield Width is fixed when using DSPC00044 on a 568.2MM with 2.5b9?

Thanks in advance,

Great thanks, I got DSPC00044 running now, and it sounds indeed different from DSPC00049.
I must say indeed that vocals sound different and are a bit more clear also, and the overall sound is more how Should I say cloudy and "hang in the air" type of sound compared to DSPC00049.

I'm still looking for DSPC00055, which is I think the latest version compatible with my 568.2mm?
DSPC00049 sounds more realistic, and more down to earth in my opinion.

Still looking for it, if somebody knows where to find it please let me know..
