Well it is digital sound processing so it can change! LOL

Merry Christmas everyone...or should I say ditto?

Cheers,
Ron

I'm afraid that they are no longer on line since the apodising debacle. I'm sure a friendly HH'er might have a copy on their PC.

Broken promises? I'm not very impressed TBH.

Of course, all this is utter BS as bits are bits so the sound cannot change... wink

Light blue touch paper and retreat until next year...

Merry Christmas everyone!

It magically "unbalances" it really good though smile

The changes since late 861V3/568.2mm are basically MRC which is on seperate DSPs.

All changes since then have been minor sonics wise (DSPC's job) which is why it works. If there were major differences we'd have issues.

Interesting information !

So far I have refrained from doing any firmware updates after 1.44 (G68). This because the use of my system is 99% Blu-Ray via the HD621.

My reasoning was that because apodizing is done in the HD621, it would be no effect to update the G68.

Reading the postings above I now assume I am incorrect. Let's see where this goes !

That was my thinking as well Robbo. I'm in the same boat here only using HD621 as source. But the DSPC affects/imparts the sound in a major way. It sounds more "compressed" in c00055 than c00044.

This is also why I mentioned the 808.x directly into DSP8000 speakers in the beginning post. We need to get Trifield/Cinema/Discrete as untainted and fullscale as possible. The highrez source already does a perfect job of telling us what was on the recording; the cues, microdetails and presence. This must not get lost on the way and this puts DSPC in a central hot spot.

I just changed the DSPC in my G68 from c00052 to c00044. Wow. Big improvement, IMO. More presence. More natural instrument timbres. More precise imaging. Lots of resolution while still sounding relaxed. Very happy.

Just came across a note I jotted down from your post above, about setting 5500s to small for music in my setup. I had not acted on it. When Marc Koval recently visited to install new tweeters, software and tweak my setup, he tried a lot of various setups for music, and settled on small for the 5500s, with my 2 15" subs split 1 to 5500 vertical center and 1 to 5500 rears, with 6000s fronts full range. A belated thanks for your good advice, especially when it answers the unasked question.

Glad I could help in some small way!!!

Like all these things though, it always comes down to the specific Room, Configuration.......and above all.......the preferences of the User

Enjoy your "new" system smile

Really is remarkable how much better it sounds with C00044. Last night I watched Super 8 and the train crash was jaw dropping amazing. My surround channels have never sounded better too.

I'm a bit late to this party but I've finally found the time to have a play. I have a G68XXV with all analogue ATC active speakers.

I also agree that the C00044 DSP gives a more "hang in the air" type of sound than the c00052 which I was using. I settled on Width = 1.3 and Centre Depth = +1.5 after testing on a small ensemble (Clannad) and a big chorus (Verdi opera). I might play a bit more yet.

No error messages (apart from the initial WinFup warning) have come up. Overall, a pretty good retrograde step. grin
