Following on from questions raised in the 'Something new..' thread, can we predict anything regarding the likely compatibility of the M6 with the processor Speakerlink connections? I had assumed that the M6 could be potential side of rear channel speakers in a MC setup, but perhaps this assumption isn't justified.

Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.

Reference my comments in the "Something New..." thread about the M6 speakers being intended for Sooloos systems, I can't really see any reason why they could not be used with SL equipped processors but I don't think that this was their original design intention.

The fact that control from an "audio core" is the only thing mentioned in the datasheet is a good point but probably only marketing spiel.

(These comments based on no technical knowledge whatsoever of these products grin )

Hopefully, no reason. It will be interesting to get the 'official' view on this though

The M6 is a full range loudspeaker that can be used in any position with any speakerlink equipped Meridian system.
So... If a pair were used with AC200 that would give you a stand alone system that could accept multiple sources etc ..in just the same way that AC200+ DSP3200 would do this.
However you could also use them (M6) with Sooloos, G61RSL or 861V6.
The design is simply a departure from the established DSP range, it is not meant to replace anything but merely to run alongside and slot into a price point.
They hope to reach a wider market with the M6 so that must be a good thing.
I've seen them but not heard them.
They look good ... but i don't know how they sound yet.
However there's some interesting technology in there and that should mean impressive results that could make this a very compelling choice.
I remember looking at one of the first F80's and think "how could anything that small and made out of plastic sound so good!"
Have faith folks, let's wait and see (hear)

I suppose my guess was correct but the result does not look very elegant or desirable. One only has to compare these with the quality of real wood and shiny-metal speakers available for about 1000. However, as an outspoken fan of the form-factor of the F / M80, I suppose I should give them the benefit of the doubt until I see / hear them.

I wonder how well the downward-firing driver will work once the feet have sunk nice and low into the carpet?

Does this give a whole new meaning to the term "noise floor"?

[of course I know that these are not the first speakers to have downward-firing drivers]

Hi Asa Post,

The sound from the downward facing driver is dispersed through 360 degrees by a cone at the top of the base and comes out through a slot below the material covered section, above the base, not below the base past the spikes.

You'd have to have a pretty deep pile carpet to block this slot!

I think the bass driver is above the electronics at the top of the metallic enclosure at the bottom so the pile on your carpet is going to be quite high if it gets in the way.

(Snap - Rick).

I can see these being used in lifestyle environments - for example connected to MC600 controlled by iPod/iPad - where 'small' floorstanders are actually easier to position than a pair of DSP3200 on a shelf or stands (and possibly more stable).

I'm not keen on the look but I do suspect they have more WAF than DSP3200 on stands.

Chris

Why are so many negative posts here?
There is only one HH who heared the speaker and in a fair surrounding.
There is less traditional technic invalved but we should wait for a real listening test before to much speculation is done.
I'am not a friend of class-D amps and the "plastic" - but the result will tell the truth.
For my personal taste the product presentations is to much marketing loaded.

Yes, I agree. I have never seen the advatage of standmounts over floorstanders when they have the same footprint if the criterion is space saving.
