Hi Nic,

I've just had a play with mine (40gb model).
First time (ATV off initially) it took about 35s to get all the album art and it was there when I switched back from another app (as you'd expect, it's running in the background.) However, when I closed down the remote app and re-opened it, the refresh took about 15s (I did it twice to check). Suggests there is a cache?

But with the current iOS the app is running in the background unless you make the effort to turn it off so this shouldn't really be a problem right?

Agree that you'd hope the Sooloos app to have accounted for this though and I'm sure they will have.
Cheers,

Ed.

+1 that it caches like iPeng. That takes a couple of minutes to refresh all artwork (~4000 covers). I would be shocked if Sooloos mkII didn't operate very quickly. Would be too much of a step back from C10/C15 experience. The product line up suggests that iPad is the preferred tool for controlling libraries going forward.

Hi all.
Could some of you more experienced C10/C15 users could perhaps explain the features that we can not expect to see on the new iPad app release that the C10/15 units have?

Really. Looking forward to this new release. I wonder when it will be available.

Suggest that you hold that questions for a few more days until said users have the new app and have played with it. Really hard to guess how close the functionality will be.
It may actually have features that the C10/15 does not have (yet)

It may also be that the C10/15 gets an update at the same time.

Better just to hang on a tad longer I think (unless someone here is in the know already)

I like, and share your positive outlook, quite refreshing.
In case you mean me, I was only being negative about the Apple Remote for iPad app, and also curious why it might be like that.

For example, I suspect the Apple Remote for iPad app has to do its own optimisation of the images from the database on the Apple TV itself. This must take time, and may explain why different covers take different amounts of time to load.

One could imagine that the systems which are faster would probably have already optimised images on the "server" (whatever system we are talking about) so that it's just a matter of uploading to the iPad.

I guess what I am trying to work out is where the logjam is for the Apple Remote for iPad App - and whether any of it is an unavoidable aspect of having a remote using WLAN and iPad.

I don't think the authors of apps have control over precisely when they appear in the App Store, do they? Don't Apple control that?

"coming soon" begins to feel ominous, although to miss CES would be a poor show...

Yes, especially since they are focusing on Sooloos with the new hardware.

Hi have a feeling apple release apps on their pacific coast time zone.... Patience will prevail on this one I think. Perhaps this evening.

Hate to be a party pooper, and hope to be proved wrong, but it still says 'coming soon' on the Meridian website.... given they updated the website with the M6 today I would have thought they may have announced the iPad app too.

Perhaps tomorrow so as not to steal the thunder of the M6 release?

For app releases, there are a few things at play. There's the approval process, which of course developers have no control over the timing of. That being said, developers have the option of giving a release date such that even if approval occurs prior to that, the app will not be posted until that date. My understanding is that if it's a case of the latter, the app becomes available at midnight for the local time zone. As such, you see rolling availability as midnight comes for each successive time zone. See this blog entry:

http://oleb.net/blog/2011/05/at-wha...store-when-set-to-specific-release-date/

So, Meridian either hasn't gotten approval yet, or set the release to be a day other than today. It could be possible that they didn't want the app to be released before a press release, so they could be holding in until tomorrow. They started off today with M6 deluge, but there's also the 818 that they still have to promote. It could therefore be some kind of staggered thing during the show. I have to imagine there will be some kind of information out of CES that tells us more, assuming the release is not imminent.

Jeff
