I Just enjoyed the New Year Concert From Viena on BBC HD.

It was superb in every way, great sound on my system, great pictures great ballet routines.
It is such a shame that so many people would not have been able to enjoy the audio quality that was available to us all on this forum.
This is not somthing I would normaly watch but I am glad I did and is a very civilised way to start the new year.
Even S.W.M.B.O agreed.

Happy 2012 to all, Chris smile

John Renbourn -- Sir John Alot.... possibly his best & an amazing natural sounding recording. BTW anything on Nimbus if you enjoy Western classical music or Indian classical music. Ditto for BIS.

Following on from the posts late last year about multi-CD Jazz bargain boxes, I wondered if anyone else was looking at the rock/pop "Original Album Series" and "Original Album Classics" box sets that seem to have come out recently. I just got 5 albums each from Weather Report, The Monkees and The Alan Parsons Project for just over 30.

I have boxes of Tom Waits, The Jesus & Mary Chain and Rickie Lee Jones in my Amazon basket, but haven't pressed "buy" yet. Again, 15 albums at just over 2 per disc.

Anyone remember when CDs were 15 each??

Just picked up a copy of The Beat Club Sessions by Rory Gallagher - awesome blues rock.

I'd never heard of him until he featured on Radio 4 a week or two ago on Front Row.

His first six albums post Taste are all great, they go downhill after that IMHO - If you like that Hoodoo Man Blues by Buddy Guy & Junior Wells gives a (strong) hint of some of his influences. Irish Tour '74 is available on DVD - but I haven't seen it (the album is outstanding).

Hi
Have you listened to Joe Bonamassa, try Dust Bowl, or Don't Explain an album he did with Beth Hart, both brilliant, off to see him in Brighton on the 23rd March.

Urban myth that Jimi Hendrix was asked what it feels like to be the greatest guitarist in the world after playing Woodstock....his reply was "I dunno, ask Rory Gallagher....".

Irish Tour 74 is a superb album.

Talking of recommended music, I got the "Bowers & Wilkins presents Very Audiophile New Recordings" album today. Recorded in XRCD24 (never heard of it) but the sound quality is incredible for standard redbook CD. Great track on there called "Long After You've Gone" by Chris Jones. You can pick it up on eBay (it's a Japanese import)

Am I alone in enjoying Leonard Cohen's latest oeuvre?

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.
