could you possibly unearth & point me to a thread that covers the 2.12's problems with bass management? I am apparently oblivious to these problems...

I am on a smartphone so can't search right now. I posted what I found after I traded up from a 568 to 568.2mm. Late 2003 early 2004 I think.
Basically the delta between lfe and bass management when decoding dolby digital is 20db instead of 10db. Bass from all small channels plays back 10db to low. The more I think about it I think it was only with the smartlink input. It has been so long I don't remember but my post explain it quite well.
So if you select large front main left and right and LFE only sub you will not have a problem. It's only when you select all small front and back with Mono sub and use the mm input. You could set the LFE 10db lower and boost your sub 10db but then when listening to music you had to lower the sub 10db. DVD audio was plagued with weak bass sometimes. 2.5 beta fixed this problem...but broke the width setting!

Yes, I've always known it was that transition. Only what, 7 years it's been broken and nobody at Meridian noticed. It's cominbg any day now, it takes a while to test you know

Meanwhile I tested some CD with the width adjustments of Trifield. As a very short summary, its a nice feature for bad recordings, but you dont need it for a standard or very good CD.
Of coarse, its my room, the sound what I personally like, that is given that statement. Playing around between 0.8 and 1.2 for standard CD its nice,as you can play to achieve a better sound. So with Sooloos, when I can assign for every CD some parameters, its a perfect tool.
Of coarse, M have to fix it at all, the selling a feature what doesnt work, in legal terminology this is called a fraud.

I have read on this forum that Trifield Width somehow got messed up with a firmware release. Does anyone know which release it was and for what processor models was it - where Trifield started experiencing issues? (i.e. up to which firmware versions and models was it fine?) Thanks.

Broken Trifield width appeared with 568.2 (2.5b firmware), 861v4 and all G processors. Everything prior to that worked fine.
Cheers, George

The issue appeared with DSP-C file version C000049 and was fixed at C000054. If you look at the file names in the firmware update and the "C" file is between those TR width doesn't appear to work.
General "Firmware revision" with broken C file version appears to be - 861 (v4.2 and v4.25), G6xx (v1.01, v1.02 and v1.44), 568 (2.5b9)

I'd be curious to know which version DSP-C is in the initial release of 861V6.
If anyone has not updated their 861V6 you can check the DSPC version by hitting Display while in stand by.
Curious what G68SL has too.

Hmmmm....that probably explains why I so much preferred Trifield on my 568 vs 861!!
Micro 861 4.1 /4211 DSP C00044/D84049 DSP E0000E/F84049
So that means I would need a FW update on the 861??

If your 861 is using C00044 Trifield width works.

In earlier processors we allowed Trifield to operate for configurations with no Centre channel. However we felt it was not of any interest because it amounts, in that case, to a width control in Stereo which we don't provide. At some point we changed the processors to revert to Stereo in the Trifield-no-Centre case. You provide width control on the F80/M80, and I thought the AC200 also provided width control. I think it's a useful function.
