I too had to change the settings once the updates were installed. After playing with Trifield for a while I settled on -2 axis, 2.5 depth, -1.5 center level, 1.3 width. To me it sounds impressive, but unrealistic, there for for critical listening a turn to Stereo.

I played a looooong time finding the right toe-in and distance from the side and front walls, and now I can tell you that this is the best sound I've ever had with M, in Stereo. I've never been able to find that click where everything sounds coherent with Trifield.

What Center speaker are you using? Three 8Ks would be perfect.

I am reluctant to add to this discussion, however, I find an optimised Trifield width to vary from one recording to another.
I am also reluctant to label each CD with its optimised setting and am looking for "one value" that satisfies all. I could be badly set up in the first place, but if I am not then it suggests, as the handbook states "Trifield is recommended for well-made recordings...

Goodness. What surprising discussions if I'm understanding properly.

For clarity, when there's mention of "DSPC" are we talking about only the C labelled .mfu file in the selection of .mfu files which get uploaded as part of the firmware, or is it the entire DSPController firmware release in general?

Cheers

DSPC refers to a portion of the firmware in this case the bit starting with a C ie C00044.MFU.

Interesting to say the least.

I've installed it on my 568.2 and Trifield width works at last. But it's more than that I think it sounds better. I know the power of suggestion and all that and I haven't spent long listening in the big scheme of things. I'll live with it for a few days and then go back to the 2.5b for a while but at this rate I can see me going back to C00044 again.

Regards

Richard

This is an intresting development indeed.

Do you just have to upload the individual C00044.MFU file or is there anything else ?

Thanks

Justin

Sorry, I'm a little slow...

And you do that only on the processor, who has been updated with the latest M firmware? Not the speakers, right? And the processor (G68 in my case), will retain the benefits of the latest firmware update, i.e. apodizing and improved Direct DSPs mode?

And what is improved exactly: the spaciousness of the Trifield DSP over a plain vanilla Trifield DSP with the latest Firware?

Thanks

You will retain apodizing yes. Direct optimization, not likely. +3dB tweak is probably needed. Please be advised that I geared this topic to advanced users. You don't need to participate to evaluate the DSPC of generations ago. Sit back for a while and enjoy the findings..

I'm using a DSP5500HC, to my ears the height difference has been a constant issue, I physically tilted the speakers up a bit so that they are pointing right at my ears. This helped, but it never quite integrated well with the 8Ks, to me Trifield has always felt un-natural, to many variables, and the physical difference of the speakers makes it impossible to truly seamlessly integrate. So for critical listening Stereo is best (again, to my ears).

I agree this is all subjective and very psychological, but how can you expect a speaker like the 8K costing many times over what the D5K5 cost to work in harmony with one another? Though after the update I feel they play nicer together, I feel the only way to truly enjoy Trifield is to have the same speakers all around.

It's sounding even better. As a +3db & mainly Trifield user direct and stereo are lost to me following the new firmware due to clipping & I will now likely have them back.

Thanks for all the good work.

Justin
