If your priority is Direct then don't run +3dB.

If your priority is Trifield then +3dB has the same pros and cons it always did.

Is that don't run +3dB with Direct in relation to the latest DSPC (C000055) firmware ?

Point of moderation.....

We are discussing here the use of firmware that has for a long time been in the public domain as issued my M. Reverting back to previous versions is implicit in the upgrade and may have been explicitly approved in the current firmware notes.

Unless HQ have some serious technical warning that code x really doesn't work with code Y then I don't think there is an issue.

As long as we keep the sly digs at people out of the posts we'll have a constructive thread.

For those that want to use non-M firmware then they know where to find it outside of HH.

I have not checked where the new Firmware applies the new +3dB (that is I don't know if the new "Direct" preset is implemented in DSPC). Since running +3dB in Trifield (old firmware or new) I don't really care what Direct does so I have not dug into which portion of the firmware actually implements that. Should be pretty easy to figure out. So I can't actually answer your question.

I can almost guarantee Bo* would frown on this sort of experimentation. I'm just warning folks it could explode, that's all.

My 800v3 has "upsampling firmware" installed and I tested a lot of variations of Cxxx file in my v6 with the new 6.03sw installed.

For me are two absolute winners - the C00044 and the C0003B.
C00044 gives a detail, warm sound and smooth highs, beauty voices and body of instruments.

C0003B is much faster, more live, more attack and easier to hear height details, but it has less body than the 44 and the voices are not so beautiful but maybe more realistic.

So it's a personal taste what you like more and music genre dependent.

Fascinating conversations going on here. Can I just check my understanding perhaps for those of us who are a bit slower on the uptake.

If I install C00044.MFU on my 568.2 running 2.5b firmware it will fix Trifield width and sound better?

If true I think this deserves a thread of its own, I had no idea what DSPC referred to and only read the thread in a moment of idol curiosity. I'll give it a try and as I can control what firmware is on my old 568.2 I can always flash it back to the beta software that Meridian seem to have abandoned.

Many thanks again to the brains of the HH forum.

Richard

It should be noted that Erwin tried C0003B on his G68 and it failed. I have not tried it myself and not sure if I will.

Yup. Sound better is personal taste, but it will fix Trifield width for sure. You may see "Bad Code" on 568 when booting or loading MConfig. I don't have a 568 to confirm details.

Sorry, I have only experience with my equipment where it works perfect.

With my 3 vertical speakers and c0003B i have
width 1.0
EQ flat
depth +0.5
center level -0.5
axis -1

Increasing width to higher numbers spread the stage, it sounds impressive but unrealistic for me, it will help with bad recordings.
As with the new firmware in the speaker and in the processor the adjustments are more sensitive as before as the resolution has improved.
As an example, you can hear axis variation now, the attack of drums can now be adjusted with the axis value.
The whole firmware upgrades are like heaven and hell, you have to spend a lot of time to tailor the sound what you like, but after all that work it's perfect.

Just to say for completness, all that is based with the 6.03sw in the 861v6 and the new firmware in the speakers what to install is a must!

Thanks to the people at Meridian that have worked on firmware and listening and still continue working on that; that's a BIG christmas present.

Robert
