Not really, that is people borrowing more than they can afford to borrow, and they can only really blame themselves for that, although, being human we do like to blame anyone but. In his book "The Big Short", which examines the financial crisis by exposing the venality of Wall Street and associated financial services, Michael Lewis cites the case of a Mexican strawberry picker who was given a $750,000 mortgage!

Can I reprise my question earlier on. Are Sooloos products made at Huntingdon? Do you specially Huntingdon or made in England as opposed to China etc.? As an example looking at the label on the back of an MC200, MC600, MS600 etc. it states - "Designed and Made by Meridian Audio Ltd England PE290 6YE". In addition to "Made in England".
Life but not as we know it...

Well, in view of the potential job losses, I did mean the Meridian works in Huntingdon. So, from the labelling, it looks like the newer Sooloos products are made there.

As I said above, I see the problem with the world these days is no one can take any blame anymore, it is always someone elses fault. "They said I could have the loan". Hmmmm? Anyway, new rules are being brought into place it was announced this morning, so in the UK at least all earnings are to be proved regarding mortgages, no more self certs., no more fast tracks, they will be confirmed with help from the Inland Revenue so they were saying.
No Darling, I've had it months!

Well, here's something from recent personal experience to sully the water...
One long-learned lesson is why use your own money when you can use someone else's money?
Almost all the time I utilise credit cards for online payment protection and to build-up real-value John Lewis vouchers (that's how I got my 'free' Bosch coffee maker last Christmas. All such credit balances are paid-off in full every single month.
So, imagine my surprise when taking advantage of Apple's 0% offer last week to be refused credit for 700, without any reason being given.
I went online and paid for an Experian credit report, that revealed that I had the highest credit score possible (999, if you're interested).
Here's the kicker; even though I pay-off all my credit cards in full every single month, as evidenced by my documented credit history, the amount of credit available to me in the market-place might possibly tempt me to blow the lot in one colossal bout of retail therapy (even though there is no empirical evidence to support this).
If I was at all tempted to be irresponsible enough to spend 35k's worth of credit I would have done it a long time ago - and, an additional 700 would have been a drop in the ocean. The lesson appears to be in talking to your credit card companies and in asking them to reduce the amount of available credit to you: which seems to fly in the face of accepted wisdom.
The point to this story is for anyone contemplating buying Meridian via credit over the next year or so (and for the dealers selling Meridian). That is, just because you have a healthy income, and a generous credit score and history, it doesn't guarantee your ability to secure interest free credit for Meridian kit.
BTW, I paid cash for my Apple purchase.

The problem is that the refusal of credit by Apple is likely due to the fact that there would be no potential profit in the deal for the financing company ( I assume it to be outsourced as most companies do). They work on the basis that few will pay the loan off in the 0% interest free period and any outstanding balance remaining will trigger a high interest rate on the whole loan from the time of inception. Given your track record the whole loan would likely be repaid within the interest free period hence a lot of work for no reward
At least as a financier that is how I would view it.

Guess some things haven't changed then. Give credit to those least able to manage said credit. No wonder the financial system is in such dire straits.

They all do it, sell credit wrapped up in Sofas, TV's, Kitchens, Bathrooms and on and on. I marvel at how people still fall for it. The service and aftercare is often rubbish as well. What do you expect, THEY SELL FINANCE in many disguises. The product or service is imaterial. I am a save up and pay for it person, always have been, brought up that way. (Thats why my system is what it is) For years I have been flying in the face of the considered normal borrowing culture. I am so glad I stuck to my guns as I have been proved right eventualy. My smuggness is no help to anybody though, tough times indeed. Cheers Chris
No 18 in the Hall of fame I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone
