Seriously, for 45k, this stuff should have a 25 year warranty like that offered by Bryston. Even Bryston don't offer their renowned 20 year warranty on their digital products. It drops to 5 years but that's still better than M.

8Ks are guaranteed for 3 years by Meridian which is extended by three years if you register. I actually think that's quite ballsy (is that a word?)

8Ks are guaranteed for 3 years by Meridian which is extended by three years if you register. Is Meridian still doing this? I was under the impression it was a limited period offer which expired a long time ago.

After 10+ years of production they should have a good idea of how much warranty is claimed on the 8Ks..... So no not ballsy, just proper controlling

I was under the impression it was a limited period offer which expired a long time ago. I understand this to be the situation. "The DSP8000 Loudspeakers are guaranteed against defects in material and workmanship for 3 years from the date of purchase, or 6 years if you register your product with Meridian." - from the current user manual. Thanks for posting that Martin. Six years isn't bad, but I would want more for something so expensive. Still, if a pair of 8ks was a money-no-object purchase for me, I guess so would be any repair bill...

The problem may be that in the past many Meridian purchases were not In the money no object category but instead made by enthusiasts who had saved hard earned income. The problem now is that one has to factor in the cost of what is now a potentially very expensive failure and I for one are not willing to be part of that club. I'm not saying that we should go back to free repairs, but the disproportionate cost of some repairs has put me off any future purchases.
What's the cost of a new HDD for a MC200 going to be in a couple of years time if there is no mechanism to reimage a new drive - I assume that MC200 boots from image on HDD so this would need to be reloaded by someone with ability to reload this image.

I agree Ian. I'm concerned with future supportability of Meridian kit.

The Ensemble boots from EPROM and runs a bespoke version of Busybox Linux As such, it will continue to act as a "Broker" or Core, even if a Hard Drive isn't actually present My guess from a few quick looks at the MC200, is that it is also Busybox Linux based and does not require a Hard Drive to boot etc.

Me.too. And Season's Greetings right back at all at M . It's very commendable that they are having more of a communicative presence these days .
Keep em coming !
