I've got stuck in trying to install the 7.7 software and would appreciate help from someone with more technical knowledge than me!
My iPad's iPeng app stopped talking to my Squeezebox server. This seems to happen each time a new Add-In becomes available on my Windows Home Server NAS. First up, is that normal? Not very helpful (but perhaps typically Windows?)! Surely it'd be better to keep functioning and just flash up a prompt to install when I feel like it.
Back to my roadblock situation. When I try to install the add-in, I'm told that Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 is required. I can find this as an .exe file for Windows XP and similar. But nowhere can I find the .msi file required to use a WHS Add-In. Could a kind soul please point me in the right direction?

Thanks Nick.
Previously, I found one squeezebox forum (via Google) but the discussion groups didn't seem to help. Since your prompt, I found a second squeezebox forum which seems helpful. I'll check this out and report back in case this is helpful to others.
All the best,
Andy

Here's where I've got to...
My conclusion is that Squeezebox 7.7 is a no-go area on Windows Home Server. It requires MS Visual C++ 2010, which is available as an .exe file, but not a .msi file for WHS Add-In. A user's post at the Squeezebox Forum was answered by Logitech with a link (including ID code 5555) which, for me, downloaded the .exe file.
Fortunately, I'd kept a copy of the Squeezebox 7.4 .msi Add-In, so am now restoring to that version.

Visual C++ is not an addin for WHS so an msi is not required. Since you are referring to addins using msi packages I am assuming that you are referring to WHS v1.
Just remote desktop to the WHS, or logon locally, and run the exe of Visual C++. Once installed reboot the server and install the Squeezebox 7.7 msi the usual way and you should be fine.
Cheers,
Tony.

I had the same problem as you when I tried to instal the latest version too. It somehow lost C++ when removing the old version and wouldn't therefore allow installation of the new. You need to install the missing C++ file and the way I did this is as follows:
In Windows home server you need to access the permissions page so as to allow file downloads (embedded WHS in my NAS precludes this). This I found under the 'custom settings' in 'Internet options'. Then you need to search the web for a free download of the missing C++ file. This is quite easy to find using a general search. Download the file and you should then be able to instal the updated slimserver7.7 Don't forget to reinstate the permissions exclusion (just in case!)
Hope this helps

Tony and Rod, many thanks indeed. Sorry for my late response - I got called away at short notice.

I did what Rodders suggested but by using remote desktop connection to drive my WHS directly. Not recommended, I know.
I just used the ancient version of Internet Explorer that was in there to download the Windows Server 2003 version of the redistributable from Microsoft and then put that in.
Having said that, the reliability seems to have dropped a little, but that could be because of some new routers that I've installed too.
To be honest, the more I'm forced to RDP into it (and particularly use old IE), the more I wish there was a nice free virus checker I could put on it. It's not really acting as just a dumb NAS any more so I worry it's vulnerable. The drive extender (which I love) makes me nervous about using anything not specifically designed for WHS.
Cheers,
Mark.
