So, if I understand correctly, 2 identical files (same checksum, ripped 2 ways from same CD) played through the same system (cables etc.) from the same harddrive cannot sound any different.

That's what I would have expected; but Martin seems to be able to hear differences and clearly is in contact with others that seem to hear the same things. What could be going on - apart from snake oil?

If the observed differences are so large it should be possible to 'measure' the differences somehow. Or?
