The release notes are very brief and I suspect do not tell us the full story, but something is now different with Trifield. Possibly in my system, this is all down to the DSP speaker updates, but I can't factor those out to investigate. I was not implying Trifield didn't change. But it's levels (with center disabled) are exactly the same as it was. Just stating the +3dB Tweak is still applicable to Trifield. We know Trifield changed. The Width Works and who knows exactly what the default was before. If you're referring to 861v6 Trifield changed then I can't comment on that. Regardless, I would always run the latest firmware if you can. I suspect most processors now got what the 861v6 has had all along.

Hi Carl Actually you can factor out your DSP Updates Ask your Dealer to Roll the DSP Firmware back for a few days...........and then run with Trifield and the new v6.03 861 Firmware

The release notes are very brief and I suspect do not tell us the full story, As regards the absolute veracity of the Release Notes, if the Notes did include everything, then 861v4 Owners out there will be disappointed to learn that their 861v4 will not be receiving a Trifield Width Fix Even though we know it does from Users' Posts.............. Then again, why would we be surprised if Meridian's Documentation didn't include all the information??

When has a release note ever reflected what is actually released?

Understood, I had forgotten about the D7k2 firmware not being available
That being the case, I can briefly confirm your above thoughts here......Trifield performance on the 861v6 has definitely changed
In your opinion, is it a change for the Better or Worse??

I am not sure yet. Fixing the Trifield width can not cause the differences that some people report (even with the 861v6, which had already width working). More so, keeping the width at 1.0 should sound identical as before, but it does not seem so. Maybe more has changed than the release notes indicate, so there might be a touch of magic after all ... or simply one more bug has been squashed.

Is it possible to take just the electronics panels of a DSP5500 to a dealer for the firmware update? It seems straightforward to remove and unplug the panels, but are there any drawbacks to updating (assuming it is possible) without the drive units.
Trying to avoid shifting 70kg of speaker to the dealer or forking out to cover his expenses in coming to me. Thanks in advance.
Meridan G68, G07, DSP5500 BKS107, Kef LS50 speakers. SVS sub. Quad amps.

Hi,
Before considering that action which is not without risk and would be much more expencive if you blow up the panels. Have you contacted any Meridian dealers local or the ones on this forum about supplying the firmware?

Maybe more has changed than the release notes indicate, so there might be a touch of magic after all ... or simply one more bug has been squashed. You may recall several of the v6/width fixed users (me included) confirming a) that width was fixed and b) that the scale of increments used between 0 and 1.5 seemed smaller. The effect of swinging wide to narrow didn't seem as dramatic as many remembered. Speculation was that that it was to allow a finer control. I think it is likely that M may have further tweaked the parameters within. That does not mean everything is a bug.
