All I have to say is I believe Erwin over Meridian. Back in 2000 Meridian was the best! Now? ...well I think Trifield, one of their claim to fame processing modes broken width setting for 7 years pretty much answers that question. Seven years folks! How can that be? Meridian? I used to get fixed firmware via email directly from the programmers for my then 568...non-568.2. Then today they leave out us 568.2 buyers, who bought just before G series came out, when they finally fix it. Priceless!
I would love to comment on the upgrade but...oh I have a 568.2. Darn!
I'll say this! Still sounds wonderful! LOL
Truth is Erwin is a great guy and a great programmer! This isn't his fault. All the steps were made to contact Meridian and they let this happen.
HT: 568.2mm (Revelation One filter), 518x2, SB3, Bryston 7BSTx3, 8BST, Aerial 10T, CC3, SW12(Qty2) w/SVS AS-EQ1, MK Tripole x4. JVC RS1u, DVDO Duo, Oppo 103 w/Vanity103HD, Sony PS3, VIP 3D Theatre, Acer H5360. Logitech Ultimate Remote and Hub.
Should you be doing or watching someone do the update with an mfu batch that has many mfq files one might fail to load first time. After a power off/on it's helpful to know that the upload utility has a "resume store from this file" option. This means you don't have to keep reloading the files that were successful.
Only worth knowing if/when you need it, but, when thoughts of a bricked machine flash through your head it's very handy to do.
Hi Greg, Understand the point but bear in mind that Meridian have authorised some dealers to distribute the firmware such that the info above may be useful.
So, in this instance, assuming you refer to my post above, this will not create any bad will with HQ.
Avoiding continued negative ranting is no bad thing of course.
I see 861 Product Firmware 6.03 (2011-02-08). The date of Feb 8th is confusing.
In the description setting I see
New Features * DSP. Stereo and Direct pass through without signal processing headroom.
Aside from this feature I don't see any other features, updates, fixes, algorithm changes, etc.
So for those of us with 861v6 and analogue speakers what is in this update?
861v6, Oppo83 (3xSpdif Mod), Wiim Ultra running Squeezelite, Tivo Edge, Apple TV v4 with Key Digtial Audio Extractor, Von Schweikert fronts and center, Triad in ceiling sides and rears, Aerial SW12, Orchard Audio Starkrimson 3 channel and Sunfire Cinema Grand amps
The date is when the firmware was built, which would then tested by Meridian and finally released on 31th Oct 2011. A long time admittedly, but I guess the development / testing of other product and Marketing and were also taken in to account.
Even with Analogue speakers, you will still benefit from "* DSP. Stereo and Direct pass through without signal processing headroom."
The "DSP" is referring to the Digital Signal Processing within the 861v6, not DSP speakers.
But how does this impact Trifield or other modes? Do the updates impact Direct and Stereo only?

Don't think so. Same reason why the "+3dB Tweak" never applied to analog setups.
- Fiddler (IMHO)
If you think listening to music is fun, try learning an instrument. HT: G61RSL, 4x5K, 5.5KHC, 2xSC6000, Transporter, HD621, Philips BDP7501 4K, Tivo, 65" LG OLED 4K C6 Computer: Foobar2000, 5K, Mojo, HiFiMan HE1000 V2
Exactly, it would appear that for us analog folks not using direct or stereo this is NO impact of this upgrade.

The release notes are very brief and I suspect do not tell us the full story, but something is now different with Trifield. Possibly in my system, this is all down to the DSP speaker updates, but I can't factor those out to investigate.
E.g. Meridian have now confirmed via someones dealer that the DSP8000.2 have had a "bass alignment" update as well, yet the release notes suggests it was only the DSP8000.1 that required it.
I guess the only way for you to find out is to try it.
