Yes.I think I was. Or maybe it's just the power of suggestion!

No bashing intended. I think this just highlights the tremendous difficulties in evaluating equipment and upgrades.

I've just bought a pair of MkII 5ks. Sometimes they sound better than on other occasions. It's material dependent; it's mood dependent; if you're familiar with human biology, it's dependent on whether or not you've just eaten something (hearing is muted after eating); and that's before we consider the brain's memory effect.

VK , someone should update the mConfig easter egg couple on the sofa by putting (removable) dinner plates on their laps :O)

It is very true what you say though , everything from room temperature to body temperature can have an influence . Compression in music mastering and poor mixing decisions can be more exposed the more revealing your system is . These latest updates appear to have stripped away yet another layer even as compared to the 8k listening tests in the foyer at HH2 .

I would have expected to hear improvement with ( 2/5.1) Satellite programming and other 2 channel sources in surround modes as the update pdf specifies ' 2-channel and multi-channel PCM ' sources as benefitting from the update .

And shouldn't that also include all HDMI sources which are fed via HD621 and/or SmartLink? Looking forward to playing with the new firmware next week.

Totally agree. What you're describing is everything that effects emotion. Music invokes emotion.

I don't quite see how discrete or cinema would get benefits in a scenario where a HD621 is already upsampling the material.

From processor firmware update PDF:
Quote
Upsampling Changed to Apodising type Upsampling: This update changes the type of filter applies when upsampling is carried out on standard resolution two-channel or multi-channel PCM sources. The new upsampling process includes Meridians proprietary Apodising type filtering.

How do you know this?

Were the 8ks at HH2 speakerlink versions? If not then you also have to account for the new buffering that was introduced with the speakerlink revision.

The D8k.2's used at HH2 were the Speakerlink versions

In addition, even Bob conceded that the FIFO Buffering is a minor issue when being fed with an already low jitter Device........with that same Device outputting MHR and High Rate Data

FIFO is more important with 44k PCM Data

Although I use 861v6, my speakers are fully analog (no DSPs). Has anyone done the firmware upgrade to 861v6 with analog speakers and, if so, are there tangable improvements? Thanks!

I just upgraded. I have G68, analog speakers and am playing music from a Control 15. It sounds better which makes me wonder if it is just an illusion. I thought my C15 already does apodising. So could the improved sound be from the fix to Trifield which I always use? I was told that the early C15s didn't have apodising so now I have a doubt. Anyone know how I can determine if mine does have it? I purchased it around August 2010. Thx

PS one irritation is that when I stop the music from the C15 or the iPad app it still doesn't turn off the G68. So I have to turn it off from the front button. That is just lame and I had hoped they would fix it.

"Stop" should not be confused with "Off" wink

There used to be a "Shutdown Sooloos System" that put the Meridian kit into standby but it also powered down the C15 and TwinStore which was not so helpfull.

I guess what is required is a "System Standby" option on the C15; that would put the C15 and its current active zone (which might include G68 and DSPs etc.) into standby.

Regards,
Carl
