Hi Everyone,
Been off the board for a while enjoying my system. Turns out it's got a nasty bug! Who knew?
I'm sure nothing's changed about the magnificent upgradability and Meridian/HH relationship that I saw at HH1 and I can't wait to install it at home. After all they understand that people with enough taste and knowledge to buy a Meridian system are likely to be able to manage a simple flash upload! I've got a small fortune invested in my pride and joy, and it's nice to know that I can depend on the manufacturer to pay back my trust.
It feels like just yesterday that G98s were being returned with new mechanisms, or scratched glass lids replaced FOC as a favour by Des and the team. It's like having a Saville Row tailor that notices tiny damage in a suit you bought from him years back and insists on fixing it for free because of the pride he takes in his work. These guys properly understand the luxury market! Excellent servicing costs little, but creates loyalty that money can't buy.
Now to catch up on this thread and see just how great they've become during my little sabbatical!
Cheers,
Mark.

I'd rather have the sonic advantages of the 2.5B firmware with Trifield fixed by Meridian TBH.

People will continue to get miffed when some are debating the improvements, if any, in one thread while others wait in the wings. Long way from the instant downloads of before and to which people are mostly used in this day and age. ~M~ That's what you get for trying to be positive! The idea was to encourage patience, i.e. it's worth the wait. A little balance maybe. Cheers Tintin

No need to get precious about it, simply pointing out that in olden times, everyone would be partaking in that thread more or less 'simultaneously'. Meridian owners generally are not used to this and it does seem to be attracting yet more disdain M's way when they could and should have expected more 'Good Press' for once. I'm sure the debate will heat up as more and more people get their updates. The Meridian 'Sound' unites us all and it will be interesting to get people's take on benefits / improvements for various equipment. It's a good sign that people are so positive about it so far. Would be nice to be able to switch between previous and new setups though Regards, ~M~

So is it worth the trouble to upgrade the DSP speakers? I.e. is there anything useful in those patches?

For SpeakerLink speakers, certainly. Check out the DSP upgrade announcement document on Duncan's site for details of which speaker gets what.

The release notes are quite specific (M website). Nothing too exciting for the 5200s, you had that already (you were up to date?), for the 5000s, power amps not muted on standby (?) Depends how much trouble I suppose.

Am I correct in assuming that the new M firmware does a sort of +3db trick to Stereo and Direct only, not Trifield or MCH stuff like Cinema? I'm not hearing any difference in dialogue on a DVD or Sat. Does the 3db trick (notice I don't say hack) work across the board?

Hi Ken,
That's what the M release states but until someone measures the output we don't really know what it does for sure.
The +3dB "tweak" is across the board AFAIK.

Well I think I have to pass on this Firmware upgrade. The second dealer quotes $250 per processor and $100 per speaker. So that would come out to $750 -$1000. Rip off, for something we all know takes 5 minutes.
I'm really disappointed right now.
