I thought it would be nice to talk about high res audio content for a change so it was interesting to see some downloads from Linn, two tracks are at 24-bit 88.2kHz, one at 24-bit 96kHz, and one at 24-bit 44.1kHz. Free.

Just thought one or two of you might be interested. smile

I must admit to being very tempted by HDTracks 24/96 copy of "Rumours", but with no way of knowing whether the files are truly 24/96 (or just upsamples) I've held back.

I think that the hirez sellers need to think of a way to demonstrate exactly what we're paying for before the market takes off.

This subject is can of worms that has been well opened by ComputerAudiophile.com. They've been scanning the files with interesting results.

Perhaps fellow HHers could agree on a method of analyzing files and post their findings for their purchases on a sticky. It would be a resource that would be welcome in a lot of circles.

I have the DVDA files saved as 2.0 and 5.1 FLAC. If you tell me what analysis to do and how then I can at least give you a benchmark against the DVDA to go on.

I have analyzed "high-resolution" files and posted my findings here and here. If you want to send me a file, I can analyze it for you. I don't plan on buying any 192/24 files. I can't hear the difference between the 96/24 and 192/24 versions, and my technical investigations show no benefit; in some cases the higher resolution files have issues at the higher frequencies. I also don't plan on buying any "high-resolution" files from HDTracks anytime soon. It's an expensive crap-shoot as to what you are going to get.
