cheers

It's why I'm asking!

+1 to all Nick's comments; eg I continue to use dBpa to rip to FLAC and then import to Sooloos.

Something not mentioned yet that I miss in the Sooloos iPad app is the iPeng/Squeezepad/SB server category of "New Music". Yes, Sooloos lists albums imported/loaded in the last day/week/month/year, but it's not nearly as useful as the SB listing of the most recent 100 albums in time order with newest first, as the albums are not ordered by date in the Sooloos lists.

On the other hand I find editing metadata way easier in Sooloos than SB.

On the control screen I tend to view by import date which is effectively "new music" in SQueeze talk.

At least at album level the meta data updates immediately in Sooloos which is much better (no rescans etc)

Squeezebox Server (or Logitech Media Server as it is now called) just just got even better with ver. 7.7 just released which now handles video etc as well

Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.

Spooky...just as I read your post Cliff, my, SBS just pinged to say update available.

Will see how it handles the different media but if well then it raises the bar a bit higher.

You're braver than me, Nick. I've got automatic updates turned off.

Excuse my ignorance - I do not understand what you mean about the updating of Sooloos meta data. The only updating I've ever had is when a file is loaded and a request is made for an update. 90% of the time in this classical set there is nothing new so there are holes to drive trucks though in this collection.

Hi John,

here's an example:-

Bunch of albums listed for Jean-Michel Jarre (with a hyphen) and a couple of others listed for Jean Michel Jarre (without). When you scan down your artist list I presume, like me, you'd prefer to see just one chap listed with that name.

On the Control screen or in Control:PC, I go to the albums to change, hit edit and start to type J...e...a..n etc. Sooloos artists that contain that combination start to emerge in a list and I select the one I want (or create a new one if the correct one isn't there at all). As soon as you hit save it is done and visible in the system.

In Squeeze, you edit the meta data using whatever your fave tag editor is (mp3tag for me) and then re-scan the database for new or changed files. Not a drama but it isn't instant like Sooloos.

So, the tag edit facility in the database is a very good thing IMHO.

Another example from your neck of the woods that I had to fix.....AC/DC and AC\DC.

Hope that helps.

I don't think that is available in the iPad app - and not having a Control I miss the function. Fingers crossed for the new app...

Hi Nick

I see what you are getting at and yes, Sooloos does offer some good tools for manual editing. However the job would be massive with the number that need editing that way in this collection of 8500 where at least 15% to 20% of the classical disc files have data problems. I thought you implied automatic updates from the data base when they became available. Dream on John!!!

Even those I have manually edited as you describe require more effort to do than can be justified to do completely so the first two lines are all I've ever bothered with. Editing each track would be too tedious for this lazy individual.

But with so many files I'm not really short of something to listen too and the odd "mystery" piece is a challenge to recognise. wink

This may be difficult to answer as in-depth experience of Sooloos and its competition is required.

1) Ripping faster than Sooloos, so less than 6 minutes for a Classical CD rip.
2) Better more accurate metadata lookup than Sooloos.
3) Album sets and the ability to play a set from a single selelction, do any other systems even allow sets?
4) Better CD searching, specifically the text search function rather than the Control 15 cover art browse.
5) Better iPad application than Sooloos
Hi Rick
Here are a few answers that might help Meridian in their Development

1) dBpa (and similar Engines that use AccurateRip like XLD etc.) have always been much faster than EAC.......and AccurateRip carries a lot of "peace of mind" knowing that what you've just Ripped is "correct" and "validated"

dBpa, XLD and many others take about 3 to 3.5 minutes to Rip a CD.......noticeably quicker than Sooloos EAC.......especially when Ripping thousands of CD's!!!

2) In my experiences with Sooloos over the past few months, I've come across many (over 150 I'd say) where the Sooloos AMG Lookup either didn't work or returned the wrong Album and Metadata

In 99% of those same CD's dBpa and XLD returned the correct Albums & Metadata.........iTunes correctly identified the Album in 99.9% of situations.

I've already reported this on here before.....but even when Sooloos is IMPORTING an already Ripped Album.......and Tracks 1 to 9 of a 10 Track Album are present........Sooloos refuses to recognize that Album or populate the Metadata fields with the AMG Data.

3) dBpa, Sonos, iTunes, WMP all deal with Multiple Albums within a Set in a much more intuitive way than does the Sooloos.

4) and 5) I'll deal with in the post below.
