Okay folks - thanks for all your suggestions. I can now report back!

I confirmed that the iPad hadn't upgraded its own OS, so I plugged it into my PC, syched with iTunes, and downloaded and installed iOS5. The iPad now confirms this is running in Settings, General, About, Version.

I successfully closed the Sooloos app, using the method suggested by Duncan. However, I couldn't reboot the iPad as Ronnie suggested. I hold down the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds (and then some) but no red slider appears...

I have then shut down my PC, and then powered off the MC200 and the MS600.

I then waited a few minutes...

I then powered up the MC200, then powered up the MS600, and tried loading the Sooloos app on the iPad (the PC wasn't booted at the time).

And the result was....

...exactly the same as I described this morning. "Searching for System Core" displays for about a minute, followed by a message No Sooloos System Found, which has 2 options "Enter Address Manually" or "Search Again".

I click on Search Again, and after about 1 second, Sooloos finds the MC200 and the app opens.

mad

What on earth is going on here...?!!

As usual, any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Neil

You really should be able to power down the iPad in any event. You are pressing the button at the top, not the button with the square on?

Please persevere, nearly there...

Press the Power button for 10 seconds while holding down the home key; that should allow you to reboot the iPad.

Given that the PC has constant access to the MC200, then the problem lies with the iPad.

Ah! The iPad has 2 buttons! blush

Thank you Tintin....

Right, 'Pad now successfully rebooted, but frustratingly, my problem still persists.

Any more ideas, anyone?

Delete the Sooloos App and then reinstall it again from the App Store

Also install the iPhone app and try that.

Glad I was able to add some value for a change rather than just asking questions! The routine becomes automatic after a while - it's not so dissimilar from "ctrl-alt-del", "task manager", etc etc in windows. And the sequence needs to be semi-obscure because you don't want to be doing it accidentally.

Delete it in iTunes on your Mac/PC. then sync with the device to ensure it has been deleted there. Then go to iTunes store, locate it and start again from scratch. That should do it.

Okay - I'm reporting back.

Thanks for that guidance Duncan. I know I probably could have RTFM, but I'm used to just following my nose in PC-land. I must admit this controlling the configuration of my iPad through iTunes on my PC seems about as counter-intuitive as it could be...

However, be that as it may(!), I obediently did as Duncan and Ronnie suggested, and lo and behold, it seems to have worked, for the time being at least.

But I have to confess, it has rather dented my confidence in Sooloos, and rather focused my wife's scepticism.

Thanks for the assistance folks.

Neil

Just uploaded the latest iPad firmware - wow lot a lot of messing around. Not an intuitive exercise, something APPLE are supposed to be noted for.

Anyway thanks to HH I've been made aware of it and now have the Sooloos app reinstalled (after agreeing to pages & pages of conditions which I doubt anyone reads).

Now back to M to update the APP and make it more useful.

Since the iOS5 update has anyone found with the app that the text and the buttons are mispositioned when you press '+' against, say, a genre to enter swim?
