As I understand it, optical introduces more jitter than coaxial in general terms ( ethernet is supposed to be better than wi-fi for network connection)

Provided you have a strong wifi connection, I don't see why there should be a difference.

Best to connect the Touch with ethernet of course, but if that's not possible then....wireless....
Also, remember to "fix" the Touch output volume at 100% - and of course (as mentioned above) use the digital outputs (co-axial / optical).
Lots of people on here using Squeezebox kit together with Meridian gear - the Squeezebox Forum's a goldmine of information too - so in case of problems just ask !

OK, just doing a little homework and the coax vs optical looks like a can of worms as well... Maybe use ears to decide. Back to the housework...

Any Chance you get, Ethernet your whole house. Its cheap and so much more reliable than wireless for Music. So many devices can use it now, its a no brainer IMHO
A good Wi Fi for your laptop does not meant streaming will work well in my experiance.
Enjoy, Chris smile

Buy a real of cat5 or 6, a kit for crimping rj45 plugs, and a bag of plugs and covers.
Download the simple wiring diagram from Maplins and you're good to go.

I've made various lengths for several bits of kit including sending wis up into the loft and then down into bedrooms. Works a treat.

Really not too hard. No soldering.

Why not try wifi to get going? You can always hard wire if you get drop-outs. The whole point of these devices is convenience which IMHO is not having to spool metres of wire around the house.

Once its spooled it is spooled and potensial problems are over, but certainly try Wifi for now. You have nothing to lose.
My uses for cat5 are, Wii, Bluray, Freesat box (iplayer) Squeezebox and Spare work laptop, who knows what else in the future.

Being able to connect anything in any siutable room for less than the cost of any exotic cable is a boon.

Whatever you do, enjoy it, Chris smile (Nothing on the telly so here I am)
