I have bricked my VP50 installing latest firmware, but it is always at exactly the same spot in the install about 1meg in. I'm using the 1.09 from the 'new' DVDO website.
To rule out the firmware, I was wondering if anyone had a 1.09 or earlier they could make available? DVDO used to make all previous versions available but the move to their new home seems to have got rid of them.
I'd like to have another go before Mrs_G comes back from her weekend away.
It was working perfectly before with 1.02 but I wanted some of the upgrade features.

Maybe you encountered this problem: PLEASE READ THIS FIRST BEFORE DOWNLOADING SOFTWARE!!!!
We have found problems with the FTDI USB-to-serial drivers that are newer than 1.0.2151.0. If you use a driver other than 1.0.2151.0 to install any .abt file, you will not be able to complete the installation and your iScan will be in a inoperative state until you can install an .abt file with this driver (provided below) or a serial-to-serial connection. We are attempting to get this corrected in the next driver version, but we would like to provide a solution for this problem now. http://www.simplaylabs.com/support/DVDO_softwaredownloads.aspx

Thanks to Tommy and others who are directing me to problems with the download method - all of these problems stop the VP50 from talking to my laptop, and that's not a problem. It chatters happily away until it hits about 1MB.
Spent last night searching the net, and it could be just using a USB/serial is a bit temperamental anyway. Going to try an old old laptop. It isn't giving me 'serious errors', it's just loading.
Have got the old VP30 from the back room and hooked it up so at least safe from the wrath of mrs_gimlet

I keep an old laptop just for the purpose of updating VP50Pro firmware - not that there has been much recently. Make sure you set the baud rate to 57600 on both the VP and the Terraterm pro. I think I had an error like yours until I set the baud rate correctly. Stuart

Yeah, I think I may have a very old lappy in the shed. The baud rate seems to be right - I did set it on the VP50 but of course now there is now no firmware in it I can't change it. I did try other rates on the laptop but it just gave gobbledygook and wouldn't start.

Thanks for all the help. I have just got back from a trip and hooked up a very old lappy with a serial port, and it worked perfectly. It will now go into my AV cupboard.
I struggled to get the software and firmware onto the laptop - it is so old it has no network port and no wireless. Ended up burning a CD.

laptop - it is so old it has no network port and no wireless. Ended up burning a CD. That's good! This laptop should not have any network connection to the network/internet. That way you don't have to keep windows and security up to date with weekly scans which inevitably run while you're trying to install firmware. I disabled all those scans and use a CD to transfer firmware. Stuart
