OK. I'm beginning the process of setting up my new G61R and HD621. And yes I read the manuals but I'm out here on my own. A bit confusing trying to set up sources. Lets take my Oppo first. I expect for music or DVD I would still go thru the HDMI from the Oppo to the HD621 first and then use the multichannel output on to the G61R. So when selecting the correct source for the Oppo I figured the "Video/CD" was the source to choose and rename it but under the Type there is no HDMI choice. Is "multichannel digital" the correct choice even though the Oppo is using the HDMI out? After that, what "name " do I give it and does that even matter? D1 is the default.

One other question. I would like to "store " my settings using the USB port on the back of the G61R but when I tried to store the only options I got use Comm 1 , 2 or 3. I saw nowhere where you tell the software to use the USB port.

I have a very similar setup and you seem to be almost there.

The G61R has no concept of HDMI so you are correct that multichannel digital is the correct choice. It will be either MD1 or 2. Just remember that 1/2=L/R 3/4=C/S and 5/6=RL/RR.

The name is just an identifier so its only meaningful to you and as such doesn't really matter.

The USB port will have a comm number assigned. Just check the properties in device manager and choose that number in the Meridian setup utility and you will be fine.

Cheers,

Tony.

Hi,

When adding the Oppo in Mconfig, select:

Source
Other
Then drag/drop it into your config (it will display generic) change this to Blu-Ray player.

This will now give you a source box with the right outputs.
Connect output H (HDMI) to the HD621.
Don't forget to assign a MSR+ source key to it.

The HD621 source in turn be connected to the G61RSL via MD1 or MD2.

Regards,
Carl

Well, I followed your directions but I get a message after I click "finish" that says "You have not made any connections. Are you sure you wish to exit"?

Is it because I do not have the gear physically connected to each other? I thought I would set things up on the Wizard first as a dry run .

I have the same set up and I had to ask for help too. Carl and virusKiller came to my rescue, I am sure you will get it sorted. There are some changes to be made regarding the Oppo. Try a search in 2009.

I couldnt use the USB for anything other than getting sound out of my PC.

I had to connect the G61R to my PC via the serial connector, I think it is called 232, one could buy an adaptor if you computer doesnt have a 232 serial port. I use Windows 7 32 bit and I have had no problem with the software.

Thats all I can add sorry

Shaun

Bayetta, you get that message because will not have done as instructed. You have to press the connect button BEFORE clicking FINISH.
It is nothing to do with the actual wires so dry run is fine.

Got the Oppo connected, thanks. Still issues to deal with. When I choose Satellite and try to connect to the HD621 I do not get an HDMI audio output option although I do get a HDMI video option. Am I supposed to use the same path as for the Oppo for any HDMI sources and just change the name?

Thanks

If you choose Satellite decoder you need to edit the outputs of the device to add an HDMI output , usually when I create custom entries I just add HDMI and possibly optical or digital coax audio outputs if I think I am going to need them. The connection browser is smart enough to not allow HDMI connections if there is not one defined.

I'm using a old Windows XP home edition on an old laptop. I'm a Mac person. Any help on where to find "device manager" is appreciated. I've looked about everywhere.

The Meridian install program gave me the choices of COM1 and COM3, neither worked. I had this same problem with the Legacy program but found if I closed all the windows on the left side (speakers, sources, etc) it would load, but the new Config program does not work this way.

Thanks

Sort of. In the G61R all real HDMI sources (i.e. individual devices Oppo, Satellite, other DVD players) will be set to the same input (multichannel digital 1 or 2) because they are all coming down the same physical wire from the HD621 into the G61.

Then in the HD621 you need each of these real HDMI sources to have a different physical input and be configured within the HD621 as such.

As the HD621 and G61R are connected by COMMS, this will be co-ordinated so that the sound flows from the source device through the HD621 and G61R and to your speakers.

I hope this is what you meant and I am not barking up the wrong tree!

Thanks, I think I'm pretty much done with the source config. Probably made a few mistakes but I'll deal with any later. I just want to store the configured program now to the G61R and the HD621. The USB to RS232 is driving me a little nuts. The COM ports that are available, COM1 and COM3 are not connecting.

I intend to wait for exact speaker distances and room correction until our remodeled den is ready in about 3 weeks so I want to do ask much as I can now.
